Default c5 headlight gear (2002)

Not my Vette but my son's, 2600 miles away in Gilbert AZ.
How hard is it to change the gear in the headlight door. Right one making noise and probably needs replacement. Which gear is best nylon or brass? Thanks in advance.

Here are 3 how to threads. Not that hard. Metal is better. Do both.

I would wait until the light bucket acts up, not just making a sound. Use brass, they should last a life time. Replacement takes about an hour.

Purchase the brass gear....from rodney dickman dot com. The kit comes with complete instructions with pictures. I did both of mine ....
at the same time. When one goes, the other usually is not far behind.

Thanks for the info. Looks easy, but would be easier if I was not 2600 miles away.

Send him this pic... It helped me out big time. The two blocks hold up the light and hold the motor tightly in place. Especially helps for the reinstall.. cuts the struggle more than in half.

Mine was stuck closed so it was not easy.. if he lets it get to that point its 10x times harder and requires jacking up the car, make sure to tell him to do it soon.

go ahead and do both while you're at it. The other will fail as well.

Yup +1 for sure. Great instructions, reasonably priced and fast shipping.
Easy fix.

My drivers side has been gringing upon closing for years! Still works fine. Just a little noisy. I have had the brass gear in the trunk for ever!
