I'd like to replace my valve springs before I get the car on the track for some track days. Should I go with OEM springs or would it benefit me to pick up a kit like one of these: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-kit-sale.html
Car is an '03 z06, 58k miles, 6 speed. I'd like to eventually be at 400-450rwhp, but that's far down the line. Thoughts?
I'm totally not an expert on this subject, but I just spent a good deal of time with an engine tuner wrenching on my car this weekend and when I said I was thinking about getting the PAC 1518 springs for exactly the same reason as you, he didn't hesitate to say they were an excellent choice for my motor. I've been researching this for awhile and haven't found a negative comment yet.
If your goal is to reach 450 rwhp you will be doing a cam to get there. Ive read that its best to install new valve springs whenever you do a cam. I replaced my original springs with the new style LS2/3 blue springs last summer for piece of mind. Not sure if I'll do a bigger cam down the road, for now I think the new stock springs are fine. I would install dual springs if I ever decide to change cams. Just my $.02.
if the cam is under .600 lift, a good single like the pac1518 is fine...if you are installing a cam over .600 lift I would use a dual spring...stock rockers just fine, however I would consider the comp cam trunion upgrade to them...
