Dog as a Copilot ?
I used to let them in the C4. Bought el cheapo seat covers. Threw towels and blankets over everything, but their claws always seemed to find a space to scratch through. Especially that soft black paint finish.
The second reason is the most important... their safety. 1 used to ride in the cargo area and 1 shotgun when the top was on. When the top was off and stowed, they both squeezed into the pass. seat.
Driving home one particularly nice November evening, with the top off and both dogs next to me, an a$$hat on a cellphone rear-ended me at a stop sign for the entrance to I-95 at ~25-30 mph. Totalled the 'Vette. Rear end was crushed so hard I had to climb out the roof because rear quarters where 10-12" into the doors, Halo was racked.
If the top was on and the dogs were in there, they would be at the rainbow bridge. As it was, they were ejected through the open roof and I had to chase them up the I-95 entrance ramp because they were so freaked out.
There is no good place to put and secure dogs in these cars. They only ride in my Suburban or my wife's Benz now. They get harnessed into the rear seats. They still get to drool out the windows, so they're just as happy. well almost.
Here's the little suckers, in the C4:

That one should be captioned "Was' up bitches"...Great pic
