I'm in the process of removing the transmission in a 2003 Z for a new clutch for soon to be go fast parts. I know it's most likely not the clutch since the car is stock and has 35k miles. Is it possible to do this with basic hand tools and knowledge?
First gear grinds if I don't put the car into 1st really slow while not moving and if the car is just rolling forward <1mph it always grinds.
I've replaced many clutches myself in my 97 z28, I would not attempt to dissasemble the trans myself though if it needs new syncros. I consider myself pretty mechanically inclined but rear and trans rebuilds are something that require some specialized skills and tools. Take it to a shop imo.
I will be doing mine soon as well. Couple new syncros, steal 3-4 fork, billet keys, broze fork pads ( basically same things as a stage 2 rebuild) Yours being a 2003 may already have a steel 3-4 fork however.
