I was reading an old article dated back in June 2010 which said that GM sent a memo to it's employees telling them that they were not permitted to call Chevrolets "Chevy's" since it is a global market and I guess they don't appreciate our American slang. So don't be caught calling your Chevrolet Corvette a " Chevy " or you will be whipped , water boarded and hung out to dry. Chevy is as old and American as hot dogs ,coke and apple pie. Where are they going with this stuff ?
Hey... They don't get to pick their name WE THE PEOPLE GET TO PICK THEIR NAME.
I'll be dammed if I'm going to let the creators of the worlds best car's and truck's tell me what I call them. Just because they make the longest lasting most reliable full size trucks on the road I'm supposed to bend over and grab my ankles? - my stomach would not support this...
I'm an American! I call Football Football and Soccer Soccer! End-Of-Story.
Felt like ranting for no reason and being stupid with said rant....
Thanks

As consumers, we can call them what we'd like. I simply say, "The 'Vette." I'd rather not mention what my wife calls it.
.
You have a point. Their company, their employees, their rules. It is like when Ford made every employee that didnt drive a Ford product park down the street from the factory. In these times, if you have a job keep the boss happy.

If I ran a company that built crappy cars I wouldn't want the nice ones parked in my lot either.
Actually goes back to C5 development in early 90s... The Bean counters and Top Brass @ GM could not stand calling CORVETTE, the Generals Flag Ship car a Chevrolet. You know, Chevrolet.. the poor mans Ride....
Think about this... GM Brass won! (with C7) it's Corvette StingRay .. Similier to Dodge calling their trucks RAM.. for petes sake.
It's a Chevy ... , as the say'n goes "There is a little bit of Corvette in Every CHEVY !!
There is a good reason why GM may be discouraging use of Chevy. The Chinese have successfully stolen/corrupted that name. They have a car company producing "Chery" cars. GM may feel that they've lost the brand internationally and don't want to help promote a Chinese brand - sad
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
