Default z06 conversion to Hatchback

Hi Guys,

I have the go ahead from my wife to drop some dough on making my 2003 z06 a hatchback. I love the way the hatchback looks with the top off. She said up to 5,000 so I have to keep it there but I would love to see if I can get it done (or do it myself) cheaper and pocket the extra money for a fun trip in it.

I inspected several components last night and it doesn't seem like "that hard" of a conversion - but finding the top half of a Corvette for sale doesn't sound easy lol.

Any suggestions on if this is even possible and if so maybe a shop that could do it? Mind you I live in Phoenix AZ

Thanks!

You can cut your top off and make it a Targra top.. The z06 has one more support link then the vert or coupe... And the c5 was made a vert from drawing board.. I would not convert it to a hatch..

The hatchback look is just so much nicer (to me). Could I not have it done well for 5g's?

Sell your Z, buy a coupe with Z51, and put the 5k into drivetrain mods.

I don't think 5,000 will cut it. Besides I thought you were selling your vette last week anyways? You would be better off selling the Z for a coupe and putting the money towards a supercharger to bring you back up and past the Z's power levels.

Parts alone will cost you that much.

I have seen a Z06 converted to a convertable so it is possible to do but it seems like a serious challenge and time and money investment

Please do not ruin your zo6. Sell it and buy a coupe..... Put 5000 into mods, sc, or heads and cam, z06 brake ducts and front screens and then go blow the doors off of stock Z's. you'll have a faster car for less money and get what your looking for as far as appearance. Or better yet let's work a deal to trade for my vert

Seriously though.... Don't do it.

With the above! Targa Top or invest in mods on a coupe.

Please don't. Just sell your car, buy a coupe and use the $5k to build it up to c5z level. They're not making c5z's anymore and it'd be sad to destroy one like that.

I own a coupe and agree about the top off, but I wouldn't do it to a Z.

Caravaggio Corvettes is who you want to call. Be prepared for sticker shock though. As others have said much cheaper and easier to mod a coupe.

It don't take much money to surpass z performance with a coupe, you could probably sale the Z buy a coupe and mod it for way more performance without having to pull much if any money out of your pocket.

I wanted to sell and get another for my wife but when I took it to the dealer to do the trade I got cold feet. As I have with all my cars I grew a bond with this one and don't feel like I have got to know it enough.

I will look into having the top cut so it pops off - thanks all I suppose the elongated rear window isn't a big deal anyways.

As always thanks for your opinions!

I say do it and whatever makes you happy(without ticking the Mrs's off). I also say do it because it'll raise the value of my Z06 .0000002 cents!
