Default Repainting bumpers. Remove them?

I am having my bumpers and side skirts touched up/sprayed. Should they be removed or can they be left on? The shop I am looking at using said they use a razor to get a sharp edge prior to painting and if I ask them to remove the bumpers I am sure they will. It will just cost a little more which I am fine with.

Thanks in advance

I took my nose off when I had it painted.I think it's worth the extra trouble. But I did the r&r, too cheap to pay someone else.

I would say remove them to avoid tape lines they parts once they are taken off can be detailed more then if they are on the car...

I had the rear of mine keyed last summer. The body shop where I took it highly recommended that it be removed. I'm glad I went that way.

Remove them. Should be easier for them to paint too off the car.

yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. Remove the bumper. But the skirts are going to have to stay on. Tell them that before hand and just ask them to take care in how they tape everything both visible, and underneath where they wrap the frame

gleds: I see from your profile that your Vette is silver. Ask them (strongly) if they will guarantee a bumper-cover-to-body match without blending. Silver is one of the worst colors for matching. They could loosen the covers a bit to get the wraparound spray technique others here have suggested and then blend into the body paint. Just don't want you to be disappointed.

My 2004 coupe is machine silver and under certain lighting conditions my rear bumper cover with orig. factory paint looks like crap (mismatch). I've visited two reputable shops over the years to see if I can get better results. Neither wanted to touch it.

If anyone reading this knows of a body shop in the Twin Cities (MN) that could help me, let me know!

I don't want to hijack the discussion, but to those who have had the job done, did you strip the bumpers first, and if yes, how did you do it?

I would say remove them as long as you have a good painter and he doesn't have to do any blending.

The bumpers can be removed in about a half hour. With that said, your decision should be easy.

I would take them off to be painted. They are not that difficult to remove and I think you'll get a much better job done.
