Default 2002 z-06

I recented Purchased a 2002 Z-06 and I would like to get my biggest bang for my buck in tuning and getting a little more power out of it. It has an aftermarket intake. I am thinking Exhaust upgrade and maybe doing something with the Chip (EProm)?

Don't do it, It won't end until you've redone the entire car, and then as soon as you're done you'll turn around and sell it for less than you bought it

headers/xpipe and underdrive pulley/ported TB. Then get a dyno tune. Should put you right around 380-390 to the wheels

What are your goals for the C5Z?

I wouldn't get a tune until after major mods, so you don't have to do it twice. Headers, UD pulley, small cam and tune will put you well above 400rwhp and drive nicely.

Here's my response to a similar thread from two weeks ago:

If I could do it all over, I would skip the headers and cam and just install a 3.90 rearend. And instead of a name-brand aftermarket intake, I would just do the "flip tie" mod. The ending result would be much cheaper than the route I took, and it would probably be equally as fast while getting better fuel economy around town. Just something to think about.
And here's the next comment in that thread:

if you had to go with just one, would you go headers or 3,90 gear. also what is the flip tie method.

The 3.90 car will definitely be faster. The flip tie mod involves removing the cover from the air intake box, then using two large zip-ties to make sure the air filter stays tight and secure, then flip the box upside-down and cut a hole in the radiator shroud, so you're sucking in cold air from underneath the nose.

I personally would go headers just for the sound. Remember you need a tune with headers though to maximize their effectiveness

Neither, both are very high cost items with little performance gains unless you plan on pursuing additional engine modifications. Most modifications will lower your resale value so keep that in mind also.

Headers and a proper tune yields a noticeable difference in throttle response and SOTP acceleration. 3.90 gears yield an even greater benefit, both in SOTP and 1/4 mile times.

Headers sounds great and offer better fuel economy once tuned. 390 gears will lower your fuel but give you more of a SOP difference. Feels like you are adding rougly 15% more tq. Greatly improved my GTO going from 346 to 391.

keep it stock and work on driver mods first. I've owned several high HP cars, and while fun and for bragging rights, I was by far the biggest obstacle to going fast. Put a good driver behind a stock car and a mediocre driver behind a bolt on modded car, and the good driver will generally win. After you master your beast, then I'd consider headers, cam, etc...

Headers are well worth the money. I got mine used on here for 500$ with the ORX pipe and it added around 20 RWHP to my car.
