Seems like most folks agree on "effect on quietness" 1 > 3. I'm curious if 1 > 3 > 2 or 1 > 2 > 3
In order of effectiveness:
1.) Non run-flat tires
2.) Trunk Partition
3.) Trunk Mat
I did not install them in that order, however I would say that it is the order of effectiveness.
Note that when I upgraded from my OEM shocks to my current set of Koni FSD shocks, the noise level increased due to the tires being planted against the road. The car drives like it's on rails, however I had to take in a little more noise as a result of the better shocks and suspension.
Although the Michelin pilot sports A/S zp are pretty darn quiet if you want to maintain a run flat tire.
The difference was huge on my dads vert with the goodyears, mine with the michelins. He switched and his car quieted right down.
The Michelin Pilots are very quiet, I'll keep them.
ordered a trunk baffle today . i'm kind of interested in the michelin tires but don't want to buy tires and set the like new goodyears out at the curb for rubbish pick up . i wish there was a way to recoup some value from the goodyears but nothing cost effective comes to mind [ doesn't matter i'd forget it before i walked across the room anyway ] . anyway i'll see what this baffle does and go from there . . .peace......and of course i really appreciate your comments while trying to help us .
You could always list the Goodyears here in the for sale forum, or on your local Craig's List. Someone might buy them to match up to some worn out fronts or rears they already have.
I guess I should have commented on the trunk partition earlier. Feel bad about commenting now that you bought one. It definitely reduced the noise a little bit. But I always seem to be fighting with it for position. I do use my trunk now and again. With the top up I push the partition forward for more trunk space. Then when the trunk is empty and I want to put the top down I have to push it back. I finally just removed it. Didn't work for my life style in SoCal, which is top down every time I get a chance.
But it does reduce the noise a little when the top is up.
I drive a 99 convertible. If you have excessive road noise check your wheel bearings. I thought the Hankooks I had put on were defective, took those off and installed Continental DWS still noisy. Replaced LR wheel bearing and now the the Conti's...zero road noise. No partition and do not need it.
It's no wonder you are complaining about interior noise. You drive a Lexus ! ! When are people going to understand that the Corvette is a Sports Car ? ? It wouldn't feel like a Sports Car if it was as quiet as a Lexus. Thats like saying you wish they would make Harleys quieter.
I call your toetap and raise you this. A sports car does not have to be uncomfortably noisy to be enjoyed. A Carlsson modified Mercedes sedan is whisper quiet inside and will out handle and outrun a C5 convertible on any given day.
As far as making Harley's quieter the people who believe that loud pipes save lives should try learning how to operate the machine and see what a wonderful difference that will make. All loud pipes do is annoy people.
as a car driver i much prefer loud motorcycles the quiet ones really worry me as i fear i will miss seeing one beside me one day . we took a short ride in the vert with and without baffle . i think seller was suggesting 60% noise reduction and we would GUESS 30-40% . with it we could talk without it was a talk approaching a shout .
