i mentioned in several different posts that we sold our 66 coupe and bought this 2004 vert about three weeks ago . we [she ,i rode ] drove it for the first time today . i was curious about the ride with z51 suspension and it proved to be no concern . however , the car is really noisy inside surely louder than our 2000 coupe and when cruising probably louder than the 66 with side pipes . i imagine part of it is the goodyear run flats , the 2000 has firestones . i was surprised to find the trunk and passenger compartment are connected which probably contributes to the noise . in any case she loves the car and my only obligation is to wash it , zaino it , keep air correct in tires and take it to dealer when needed . . . .peace
Congratulations to her! You're a much better person than I am! If my wife wanted her car cleaned - I wouldn't be the one doin' it, that's for sure. Doing mine is E-Nough!
thanks . actually i don't have a car but sometimes drive one of her vettes or her 2012 lexus 350 daily driver but usually drive sons 1997 honda vcr . .
I also own a 2004 convertible and the three biggest noise reduction improvements I made were (1) running non run-flat tires, (2) Lloyds trunk mat and (3) installing a trunk partition.
so there is a solution or at least a partial solution . would any of that , other than tires of course , make a difference in the 2000 coupe . the coupe is not nearly as bad as the convertible which could be the firestones are a little quieter than the goodyears . . .thanks . .peace
Congrats on getting a '04. If you want to eliminate a lot of road noise, ditch the runflats and go with a good non-runflat tire.
Although the Michelin pilot sports A/S zp are pretty darn quiet if you want to maintain a run flat tire.
The difference was huge on my dads vert with the goodyears, mine with the michelins. He switched and his car quieted right down.

It's no wonder you are complaining about interior noise. You drive a Lexus ! ! When are people going to understand that the Corvette is a Sports Car ? ? It wouldn't feel like a Sports Car if it was as quiet as a Lexus. Thats like saying you wish they would make Harleys quieter.
I would say for her birthday, you could get her new tires and a trunk partition. That made the biggest difference in my vert, now it is very quiet while driving until you wake up the beast!
If it's louder than the 66 with side pipes, you probably have a loud aftermarket exhaust. One thing I found, with the top down, you hardly notice the road noise. With it up, it is very noticeable. The tires are so much wider than the 66 tires that you will definitely hear them more, but that doesn't explain the difference with the 2000.
I also sold a 66 327/350 coupe with Allen SS exhaust, non side pipe and now drive a 2004 Vert and seems quiet in comparison. I would say it nowhere near as quiet as a Lexus, but without with non run flats a lot quieter than the 66. By the way the next project I take on is a trunk partition, I can hear a lot of sound coming from that area. What strikes me is for a manual trans with a 350 the drive train noise is minimal .
I also own a 2004 convertible and the three biggest noise reduction improvements I made were (1) running non run-flat tires, (2) Lloyds trunk mat and (3) installing a trunk partition.
Are those in order?
Seems like most folks agree on "effect on quietness" 1 > 3. I'm curious if 1 > 3 > 2 or 1 > 2 > 3
I have a '03 vert and I believe have the f55 selective/magnetic ride system. It is great and really works. Just don't show your wife the switch or it will always be on "touring"! Now with your noise issues my '03 is no where near the noisy ride you describe (roof up or down)... must have some aftermarket exhaust on your car. Have it checked out and would explain the noise. In the trunk area a heavy mat on the floor will do wonders for noise. Rob

I agree with all of those that have suggested going to a non run flat tire. I also have a vert and switched to non run flats, installed a trunk partition, and put insulation under the carpet in the trunk and the car is so much quieter.
