Hey guys. I've been looking for a C5 convertible for a while and believe I've found the one. My question is this: is there a way to tell if the steering/ignition locking issues has been corrected on this car? Whether visually or by moving the wheel? Also, how can I tell if this was a dealer replacement (my understanding is that this would be the less desirable option) or one of the recommended aftermarket solutions?
If you like the car, buy it and then take your time and inspect to see what you have and whether it needs to be improved. 8VETTE7 (aka Chuck) is THE GURU on CLB not to mention many other topics. You are getting the best input on CLB the Forum has to offer.
Thanks for the information Chuck. The car is a '98 Manual with 50,500 miles. I'll call the Chevrolet hotline tomorrow and give them the VIN. Again, thanks for the great detail!
One last question for you. When I go to get this car, and assuming the column locks as normal with the key out of the ignition, which after market solution would you recommend? If I'm reading your information correctly, I could go with the CLB to correct the locking problem if I have someone that could reset the fuel shut off in the PCM. If that's not the case, then I could go with the LMC5 to take care of everything?
