Default Lightweight clutch recommendation

I bought a one owner 2002 Electron Blue Z06 with 17k miles on it. The car makes a nasty noise when the clutch is out, but goes away when the clutch is pressed in. I think the throwout bearing is bad? The previous owner was a woman so I guess that explains the issues with such low mileage

I figure now would be a good time to put in an aftermarket clutch assembly. The car is currently 100% stock, but I do plan on adding an A&A supercharger kit soon.

What is a good aftermarket clutch to use? Price really isn't an issue, I just want it to hold 700+hp and drive close to stock. Any input on light flywheels for these cars? Are they harder to drive with the light flywheels because of inertia?

Sorry for the dumb newbie questions. Thank You everyone for your input.

If you are looking for a light weight clutch package I'd look into the Spec 3+ w/ aluminum pressure plate and aluminum flywheel. This is exactly what is going in my car now so I can't yet say how it drives, but it is one of the lightest set ups around.

Can't believe this is 'Normal' in a car that was 50k new. WOW

I have heard bad things about SPEC. Not specifically for the C5 but for other cars. I'll look into it though. Thanks!

I have a spec 3 in mine. Didn't know it's a "lightweight" set up. It holds well so far with around 460ft/lbs, but it is pretty grabby for putting around town. When it comes time, ima do a twin disc. I'd like the mantic 9k, but leaning towards a McLeod.

It will hold the power and drive very close to stock

As a sub $1000 assembly (for stage 2), I'm quite interested. I was quoted $852 for a 10.5" clutch with aluminum PP and flywheel. It's rated to 550ft/lb (stage 2), but haven't heard any reviews here on it. It's 20# lighter than the stock assembly too.

That ~10whp figure is close, I remember reading an article where they dynoed, R^2 the clutch assembly, and redynoed the same day reporting similar gains.

Default Spec clutch

I don't know how the spec drives in a C5 but in my friends 03 Cobra
( I know it's a mechanical versus fluid actuation ) it was a
TOTAL GRABBY. POS! Almost undriveable, installer said that was normal.
I would never buy a Spec clutch. People seem very happy with the Monster Clutches on the value end.
RPS Billet Carbon with lightening is 24+ lbs lighter then stock!
Think about the throttle response!

I had this experience with the Spec 3(puck style). However, the 3+ is a completely different animal. The full faced disc gives it a much better engagement. It is far more drivable while holding more power. I've put the 3+ in both my vettes now. Great clutch.
