So, Mrs. WKMCD and I had the Cruiser out for dinner a few nights ago and I watched a local LEO in my smal town make a U-turn and pull me over. I was doing about 22MPH and when he asked me if I knew why he was pulling me over I said "was I going too slow officer?". He said no.."I've been watching you drive around here for years without a front tag and we've talked about it before. One more time and I will ticket you." I've been carrying the plate and bracket around for years in the trunk. I hate it but it comes off with two butterfly nuts. It's just taped on with industrial double sided tape so no holes were drilled.
It's a mount the C6 folks use and I got the surround already painted. I bent the mount to conform to the body. It is even but the pic angle it's hard to tell.
Well he certainly did a fine job bringing you to justice. Maybe the city should present him with an award for such stalwart enforcement. I'm sure everyone in your community sleeps much better since he brought you down. You know if you ignore one law......they say you could break more serious ones later.
I've been stopped twice by the same State Trooper for no front plate, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I've not had a front plate on my car in 12 years and have never been pulled over. That being said, I'm fully aware that Illinois requires a front plate and have no right to complain if I get stopped or receive a ticket.
At least the LEO cut you some slack by not ticketing you this time.
Agreed. I have been ticketed before with no front plate, so I just decided to not have to deal with it, and put it on. Everytime I see another car (mostly new cars) with no front plates on, it makes me think about going back.
NY requires a front plate. Not running one. I have it behind the pass seat. If I get pulled over and warned/ticketed I'll put it on... reluctantly. So far, so good. <knock on wood>
I've gotten two tickets over the years for no front tag. $75 and no points so it's worth it not to run it but when the LEO promises to ticket me EVERY TIME he sees me without one...on it goes.
To bad all states don't just drop the front tag, never understood why some do and some don't.
The Illinois State Police have opposed only one license plate for a number of years on the grounds that it's easier to identify vehicles. I spent many, many years in law enforcement and don't agree. It's difficult to read the license plate of an approaching vehicle at higher speeds, and if a vehicle peaked my interest that much I'd turn around and follow it. Personally, I think if a front plate is that important of a tool to law enforcement, then all states should require them.
I was told so when you rob a store they can see your tag when you leave the store. Really, a LEO pulled me over and told me that, I think I laughed all the way to work that day.

There are police officers who honestly believe that a front license plate is beneficial in identifying vehicles. I've actually seen front license plates left at the scene of hit and run accidents.

I wouldn't call it profiling if you committed a traffic violation. Unfortunately, not having a front license plate in some states is a violation of the vehicle code. I'm sure there were days when I ticketed the same type of vehicle for speeding or some other traffic violation. I can count the number of Corvette drivers I ticketed in 36+ years on one hand.
Maybe that's the real problem, the actual design of the US plates. Do they really need to have so much dead space? Something similar to the plate above, thinner with just the tag numbers should work.
I feel bad for the guys who run the Tigershark front bumpers and the C6 owners. The front plate looks like such an "add on" afterthought in terms of design.
At least the OEM C5 front fender was designed to take a plate and I've seen some nice, pre-formed clear covers that actually look pretty good and match the contour of the front fender.
I had a LEO in Illinois pull a U-turn on me as well but it was for tinted windows in my daily driver. He told me he had seen my car for months and decided to write me a warning.
