Default Back from the tuner

Well, got the car back yesterday. Base 2003 stock C5 with a Honker CAI on it. The car had never been tuned even though the original owner put the Honker on it.

Didn't make much sense to me so I was going to have it tuned. Give that, it made sense to do a little something to the exhaust. Given that I don't race it, just something mild to breathe a little better with a different exhaust note from the stock.

Put a Borla Y pipe on and a Z06 ti backend along with the tune.

Haven't had a chance to really stretch it out due to time and a good place, plus it's raining here for the next few days but in the short time I had it yesterday it certainly woke the car up.

The throttle response is now instant and it pulls consistently through the rpm levels and gears. Feels much more responsive now.

The exhaust note is kinda hard to explain. It's not the big loud sound alot run, it's more along the line of how the European cars sound. Can't explain it. When the weather breaks I'll have to see if I can get a recording of it.

Thing has more umph than I'll ever use so anything further that I do will probably be suspension orientated.

Didn't change the looks at all but snapped a pic anyhow, just because.

p.s. OH - John threw in a set of VentMaster Hatch latches... Thanks John! So far, I like 'em from a functional point of view. I'll have to snap a pic. with them in and see if it looks stupid though. Does help with buffeting inside the car.

Very nice, I remember the day I installed Z06 exhaust and X-Pipe and you are correct on the European sound, That was my first thought.

No, wasn't a dyno tune, just more of a wake up call. I wasn't going to spend the extra bucks for a dyno tune. Don't really care what the numbers are to be honest, just like how if runs now. I could ask and see if he has something from the software to show.

How much did they charge and do you think it is worth doing on a complete stock Corvette?

For just the tune ya mean? It was around 5. Worth it? Depends on you. I just figured that since it had a Honker on it that a bit more exhaust and a tune made sense. Would I do it to a bone stock? Personally, probably not. But with a CAI and exhaust I probably would. Oh, wait... I did...

Was it "worth it"? Personal preference. Mine definitely runs like a different car now, that's for sure. Would did it do to the HP, track times? No clue, just noticeable power/torque and responsiveness improvements.

Squeezing out the HP even on a relatively stock car is not a bad thing to do.

Thanks for the reply. The dyno numbers aren't really important but as I have nearly the same set up as you, I thought I would ask to see what "gain" is obtained, however, as you sound much happier with the car, it sounds like a worthwhile investment.

I'd certainly do it again. But again, worthwhile is an individual thing. If you want me to try and get some more detailed info from the tuner just let me know.

If you do it and yours is an M6, don't forget to have them turn off that 1-4 chit.

One thing that doesn't make sense to me though is that it seems to shift smoother/easier now. I asked him if they did anything with the shifter when they had it in the air or any time and he said no. Probably just me.

Another question, Why didn't you go a X pipe? Or is that a typo? C5 came with a Y pipe stock.

I had my tune done by Chuck at CoW and I have an A4, The biggest thing I noticed was the shifting, That alone was worth the money.

yeah yeah.... had to do it ya know? I mean a CAI system without being able to breathe somewhat and then not tuned on top of it? Isn't that sacrilege?

That's probably going to be the extent of the performance mods though so don't get all excited or nothin'.
