AMEN! I was wondering how those strips are handling underhood heat, and are they wired to the stock light or independent?
My stock wire died but if yours works you could wire them to that.
I don't need the light on every time I open the hood plus
when I do want it on it may be for longer than 15 minutes.
They are wired independent to a new circuit off the battery.
I added a toggle switch.
Look more closely at the second picture.
The fused red power wire goes to the switch and the orange wire runs over to the hood.
I also added a quick connector at the hood.
So far so good on the underhood heat.

Ok, I see it, you made an aluminum bracket to hold the switch. I already have a circuit like that, but removed the lights I thought I was going to use. I'm probably going to save that for a second set of 'display' lights for shows and such. I have a mini-toggle that I might add up near the light for a slightly different effect. I'll wait till I do it rather than explain!
