OK, here is a strange one. When I leave the battery tender on the vette for a few days and then go to start it I get the "pull key wait ten seconds" but if I do not use the tender and park vette for a few days I do not get "pull key wait ten". Its a cheap tender, do you think its a bad tender. Never has my battery been dead and always starts after the pull key wait ten, I am just curious!!
Mine use to do that and then steering wheel lock but I put the LMC5 and never had Pull message till I used battery tender and if I don't use the tender I don't get the message, sounds like a gremlin or bad tender!!
Get one from Harbor Freight. I bought 3 from Harbor Freight 8 years ago figuring since they were cheap they wouldn't last. Still using the first one, gave one to a neighbor and the third one is still unused. In those days they were about $5, I think they are about $7 now.

Have you installed a column lock bypass or an LMC5 on the car? That would be the first thing I would do and see if you no longer get the message on the DIC. Or contact forum member 8VETTE7 and ask the question - he has a very good grasp of the column lock issue.
I installed LMC5 about a year ago when I was getting pull key wait and then steering lock, since then the only time I get pull key message again is after battery has been on tender. It is a cheap Harbor Fright tender, I think its bad or inaccurate, need to get ctec

Harbor Freight elctrical stuff is crap. I wouldn't use one of those on my lawn mower.
Agreed.. Get a real battery tender. Also, there is an accessory where it plugs into the acc plug. No more lifting the hood. Another thing to try is your extra key. Sometimes the chip in the key wears down and can confuse the ignition. Just a thought..
I have zero experience with the ctec but as posted in the other other BT thread a couple of days ago I have used BT's for many years with excellent results. Cheap insurance and I agree; HF + Electronics = Garbage!
I have a Battery Tender I have been using almost 12 years continuously and it's still going strong, easily outlasting a Schmidt and a CTEK. I bought a second BT recently due to my 2-year-old CTEK going bad (replaced under warranty and shelved). I use the BT's on both my C5's continuously since they are both second cars for me and the wife.
Only once is the 8 years that I have owned my '02 have I seen a "Pull Key" message.
I use the Battery Tender Junior on my '02 and have never had a problem with it. I use the supplied connector with the ring terminals (attached to the negative ground post and the positive to the stud next to the fuse box. The connector easily sits alongside the battery when it's not connected.
