Default Flying roof prevention solution

Hey, I just saw a member joined the C5 Flying Roof Club.

I have an easy solution to this:

I tied some clear fishing line on the rear latch, and tied a small piece of a yellow microfiber towel to the other end.

I tuck it up under the latch when I latch it. If I don't latch it, it hangs down in my view next to my head, problem solved!

That's a great way to idiot-proof a roof! Considering the cost to replace a roof it's worth this extra step. Can you take a pic so we can see the setup?

If you join the FRC, your insurance comprehensive should pick up the tab.

I left my convert unlatched the other day...luckily they designed that to have some tension on it when closed...

Or you could use the 'ole "Remove Before Flight" tag.

I wouldn't want to take that chance.

If the fishing line/towel works for you, then very good reminder you came up with. I have just always latched the top down immediately after putting it back on the car - it only takes a few seconds. That way there is no doubt that it will stay on the car next time I drive it.

I do the same Jack. Takes about 10 seconds to do and then it's done. I used to just set the top on my C4 once in a while just because that one was such a pita to mess with the 4 bolts. Almost forgot that a few times but thankfully didn't.

Seems like the best idea... I never would have thought anyone would not just latch it. Why would it be on the car and not latched?

This is what I do, and I even take the extra step of trying to lift the top off after I've just latched everything down. Can't be too careful and it would be just my luck that one or more latches would break on me.

Member up here joined the club last week. Totally destroyed his roof. He's currently looking for another, but needs to open his wallet a little more. Thinks he can find one <$500.

Well, I say that too, but I can't help thinking that this happens when someone comes and distracts the owner after he's put the top on the car. I can't believe that anyone would just set the top on the car and walk off thinking, "Oh, I'll latch that later." It's got to be an interruption or something.
