I just joined the forum, I was in Big Bear City driving my wife to yard sale after yard sale when I met a gentleman who told me about the forum, so I joined up. My question is how to get my windows to work again, they move slowly & move only about 3 inches with much difficulty. This man said something about indexing, does anyone know what that means? My door lock on the driver side will only work with the key, not the remote. Thanks, Kenny
Pull the codes from the DIC (if you don't know how, do a search here for step by step instructions--it's easy) You will probably get a B22** code---when you get the code post it on here and we'll be able to get you started in the right direction.
Good luck
When indexing you perform a procedure making your window go up and down a certain amount of times while also doing something with the buttons , or something to that effect. I've never had to do it, but you can find the procedure on here somewhere. Somebody will pipe up on here before the night's out with instructions.
Thanks to everyone who replied, sorry you could not help. About the DIC codes, the windows jerk about when they move at the most 3 inches, I think that it could be the tracks or something, it sure makes a lot of noise & then just stops & sometimes I have to pull them to get them back up. The car only has 17,000 miles but it has spent lots of time outside. Thanks again & glad some of you have a sense of humor, dry as it might be. Kenny
I've never had this issue. (I had a different window issue once that fixed itself )
But if it's jerking around and making lots of noise, it sounds like a bad window regulator. I don't know what this indexing thing is, but based on the jerking and sound described, I wouldn't imagine this is a software issue. But you'll never know until you try.
I believe the term indexing refers only to C6 Corvettes. As you state your Corvette as a C5 I m not sure that term relates and since you did not state your year I cant be for sure. Sounds like you have bad window regulators or some sort of physical obstruction to window operation. What happens when you try and pull up on the window while holding the up button?
