g=manufacture (GM)
1=division (Chevrolet)
y=body series (Corvette)
y=specific vehicle info (nothing special)(z for example is for the ZR1)
2=restraint system (front)
g=engine (LS1)
1-9=random check digit
v=model year (97)
5=final assembly point (Bowling Green, KY)

yours looks good! however it has been converted. on the vin 1= Hard Top (99-04 Z06) 2 = Coupe (97-2011+ Coupe, Z06, ZR1) 3 = Convertible (98-2011+)
so you vin should start out 1g1yy22g?v5 the question mark could be anything it is just a check digit then the last 6 are the actual identification of the specific vehicle
1 nice thing though is (as long as it was done right) you will experience NO difference in handling and the conversion from what I understand really isn't that hard to do and the tops are actually just bolted on.
so ya you do have a rare vehicle being a 97 vert but unfortunately it did not come from the factory that way
