Default Will it start breaking down now?

So this happened on the way back from a cruise-in this afternoon. Fifty-Thousand miles and it's only 14 years old:

Your's shouldn't. I'm at 54,000-ish with my 00 and she hasn't started crumbling. But the value has completely bottomed out, you'll never be able to sell it now!

Hopefully you should have many more miles in the car before anything goes wrong.

It's toast.

Parts will be falling off of it even when it's parked.

So- what maintenance steps are you taking at this point?

I've used the 50k mileage point as a point for proactive replacement of most of the fluids including coolant, LOF, brake fluid, power steering and transmission as well as a good look at belts and hoses. If they're still original at 14 years, I'd replace them.

Just my .02 - - -

101950 miles and only towed once for the @#$%# column lock. I think you'll be okay for a while!

At 50K not worth anything anymore. Might as well mod it now!

Seriously, do a thorough service (fluids, hoses, belts, check brakes, etc) and you should be fine. Might want to go with led replacement of bulbs in HVAC head unit. On my 2000 coupe, it went out at about 75K. May want to change plugs/wires if you have not done so previously.

Many DD Vettes are seeing well over 100K miles. The biggest problem with the C5s seems to be electrical related. If your is out in the elements, consider getting all of the ground straps cleaned and checked.

I posted mostly to observe the milestone - no real concerns. I expect it will continue as a reliable fun car. I got it three years ago with 30K on it so have put 20K in a little over 3 years, including two long (1100 and 2800 miles) road trips. All of the service items suggested (fluids, belts, brakes, plugs/wires) have been done (except hoses, which I was planning for this summer) as well as a few mods - K&N air intake, Ti exhausts, x-pipe, powder-coated calipers and slotted rotors, Z06 sway bars & shocks, new convertible top, replaced beat up Magnesium Sport Wheels with a mint set of the same, Michelin tires at about 28K (by my father, the previous owner), stereo speakers and head unit, and, just this past couple of weeks, new seat skins and other new leather interior upgrades.

I keep it garaged and drive it on weekends and nice Fall or Spring days to work. I drive it a lot in the Summer when I'm off (I'm a teacher).

Got stopped by a Maryland State Trooper on Thanksgiving day for 70 in a 55. He asked me what year it was and when he heard it was a '99 he said it looked brand new and he was only giving me a warning because he was impressed I could keep it under 100.

the 14 years old part is much more of a worry for breaking down than mileage

Well, at a mere 50K on the clock, I had to replace my transmission because the sychro's went out. Let's hope you don't meet the same fate. My motor on the other hand is still rock solid.

never have understood that with corvettes

pick virtually any normal car. most people consider 100-150k miles average and sometimes low

with corvettes a lot of guys seem to want to buy a care and just store it, polish it and drive it once a month
