I just go to the coin car wash and flip the lever to "spot free rinse". I've got a lot of salt air and wet overnights, so I rinse a lot after I wash. No spots.

OK, maybe I should clarify to those suggesting some of these alternate methods just how OCD I really am so you understand how a blower or dry-wash method just doesn't do it for me.

My '11 MINI Cooper S is my dd that I put ~100 miles a day on. I tend to wash it almost every weekend - especially if it's rained the previous week. When I say I wash, I do a full detail that usually takes 3-5 hours and includes vacuuming/detailing inside and detailing the engine bay. When I dry the car off, I do a thorough dry that includes a detailed clean-up inside all exposed surfaces of the door jams, including the hinges, hinge bolts and anything else I can get a dry-rag on. Frequently, I pull the compressor hose out and blow out water form every crevice I can reach. I also apply 303 Aerospace (plastic/rubber treatment) to all the door, hatch and window seals as well as all of the outer plastic trim, including under the front bumper (and there is a lot of that on this car). I also apply Zaino tire treatment. Occassionally, that's not enough for me so I'll spontaneously apply another coat of Zaino Z5 polish or Z6 detailer. I have a full clear bra on the entire front of the car so, often, I'll apply a coat of protectant on that as well. And this is my my dd . . .

So you see, it's a bit of a problem. Luckily, Mrs. Patches has learned to accept it and even benefits from it since I treat her Audi Q5 the same. I'm sure there are others here equally as bad if not worse.

Except for the clear bra and product brands, that sounds like a typical Saturday to me, and no, I'm not kidding. I do that at least once a week, and add pulling the wheels off so I can clean the suspension and fender wells.

Ah, a fellow clean-freak. Unfortunately, this carries through to all my other projects and activities so it's a viscious cycle. The garage, driveway and yard then get their respective treatments after the car does. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm, well, an OCD.

Washed the black C5 today in the baking, hot SoCal/Lake Elsinore sun at high noon (got to 107 deg. F here today) with another awesome, spot-free rinse. What a relief to not have to run around the car, drying as furiously as possible, for mediocre results. Took my time drying - was even leisurely about it - and not a water spot to be seen. Should have done this long ago. For people like me, there is no other option.

I fire up the 33 gallon compressor and use the blow gun.

Compressed air doesn't work with this nasty water - I've tried that too. Even before it dries, it already has spotted the paint. I've never seen such nasty water. So far, the deionized water is the only solution that fits all my requirements.

Ed wash the car at 7:00 am and you wouldn't have to sweat so much. PS you'll have more time to dry the car. Washing the car at 12:00 in 107 temps is nuts , even for you. I was in the pool with the kids having several drinks. Have a great evening Mr. OCD.

Memo,

I often wash the car early exactly for the reasons of minimizing water spots and not being out in the unbearable heat. I purposely waited until ~noon today so I could test out worst-case conditions and it passed with flying colors. Now I know I can wash it anytime, regardless of how hot it is or what time of day.
