The new BFG tires are a response to the "street tire" class for autox. They are jumping into the game again because the SCCA is changing the rules for stock to require "street" tires , no more R-Comps. I have heard that these are very good autox tires and have seen cars run respectable times on them just yesterday. These were not on a High HP car like a Vette though. I did speak with someone who is closely linked to BFG and he loves them as a race tire, but says they are downright dangerous in the rain. they are NOT a daily driver tire

Yeah their tread is shallow and there are no water extracting channels so I can imagine it would be crazy in rain of any amount.

That would be true IF the Rival came in 275/40-17, but it doesn't (yet). The 255/40-17 is the only size available that will fit the stock front wheel.

Also, the Rivals have a speed rating of "W" which is good for 168 mph, the R was for radial sizing.
