Default tire pressure

I just had exchange wheels put on, when I asked the tech how much air he put in he said 44lbs. I said door sticker says 30. He claims that 44lbs is what tire manufacturer recommends thats what is on tire. ( ford/firestone fiasco) soooo! whats right?

Your tire installer is an idiot. The tire pressure listed on the sidwall is the maximum pressure allowed for the tire. You should be running the 30PSI that Chevrolet recommends.

Best,
Karl

Ditto what Karl said, the guy is an absolute idiot. The pressure placarded on the sidewall is the maximum cold inflation pressure for very high loads. Manufacturer's recommended pressures are usually lower because the tire will never see it's maximum design load. Use the pressure listed on your tire pressure placard, and you can experiment from there using a few psi higher if you like.

Don't ever go back there again. That guy should not be installing tires on anybody's car.

I echo the responses of others. In my experience the Z06's handling is very sensitive to variances in tire pressure (1 lb differences can be felt). I suggest keeping a tire guage in the glove box and keeping the pressures at 30 lbs in all tires.

I've always run 35 psi. Keeps the sidewalls a little stiffer.
