hey guys/ gals ive got an 03 anv red and have been thinkn of dressing up engine compt, i want to have fuel rails same color as my car and was wondering if i should buy some from mid america or can those be painted good enough to match the anv red ? ive seen some but no idea where they got them done , any imput would help , thx u :
One tip...After you paint them or buy them, use blue painters tape around the edges that get fitted over the fuel rail SS hoses to protect the paint. Once installed, remove the tape.
My choice would be to paint them.. would rather not spend the money. A can of paint is less that $10
I thought the same thing . .
I tried doing the ones on my C6 - - sanding, adhesion promoter, several layers of primer etc . . .believe me, there is a significant difference in the quality and finish compared to the ones I bought . .
Big diff in price though too - -so, probably depends on your checkbook and talent . . .You can do it if you have more talent than I do . . but I'm still thinking there's a quality difference when they shoot them in a booth and add clear . . .

I agree. I've got a set I've been screwing around with forever just to try and paint. Never have got them looking like I'd like them to look. If I had it to do all over again, I'd just buy some.
Yes, I know it can be done and look really nice...but not by me. I'm just not a painter.
I ordered several things from RPI the other day,(Did get the billet caps today, thanks Josh) can't wait to get it all... color is Majestic Amethyst Metallic or Medium Purple pearl Metallic. I also ordered the waterfall for the C5 anyone have that?

I've bought a couple of painted underhood pieces from RPI and they were very nice. Yes, it will cost you a lot more to buy them pre-painted but unless you know how to do the job right or have a connection at a body shop that can do it for you at a reasonable price, go with the pre-painted ones. You'll be happy you did.
I did a set years ago using Ford Red high-temp engine paint. I sanded them for a few hours with my pneumatic random orbital sander and got them smooth enough to where the first coat of primer made them smooth as a baby's behind. I primered them and sanded a couple more times after that then gave them a few coats of base color and cleared them with a few more coats. I wet-sanded between coats. Finally, I sanded them with increasingly finer sand paper and finished up with 2000 grit and polish.
