Default Big Weekend #2

So I posted Friday about my big weekend plans to install a Vettenuts insulation kit, replace the bushing on my shift box and resolder the resistors in the environmental control unit. Yep, I got it all done and only had to say a few bad words! Here is a picture of the insulation kit.

I started Friday night and stripped the interior out of the car.

Saturday morning I pulled the doors apart. The directions were not real good here so I went to vetteessentials and got a detaled list of instructions. I found a brake spoon helped a lot to pry out the pins and still managed to break a top off one of the towers. But I glued it back on and it seems to hold just fine, at least until I try to take it apart again.

Before starting the insulation kit installation I decided to replace the shifter box bushings. I got the nice pretty red ones that come in two pieces, an upper and a lower half. So I have the shifter loose and am looking at how to fit the bushing in place and I drop it down in the tunnel. Yep, I said a bad word here. I ended up using a coat hanger to fish it out. I had to file a knife edge on the end of the hanger to get it to slip up under the bushing. So now I got those in place and all tightened up. Next I pulled out the environmental control unit and took it apart and resoldered the surface mount resistors.

It didn't look like any of the pictures I had seen so I just resoldered all 8 of the resistors marked 471. It worked and the display is working great again.

I didn't get the doors back together until Monday night but I think I did pretty good for and old man working in the heat.
So the shifter is tighter, the display works and the car is quieter. The kit was pretty good. The parts all fit very well and I only had to trim the edges on a few of the precut pieces.

I also did the climate control fix this weekend. I had looked at all the post about soldering those resistors before I did it and that was a lot of help. I will still SUPER surprised at how small those darn things are when I opened it up. My almost 52 year old eyes had to use a lighted magnifier to get them soldered. I had two fall off the board when I just touched them with the soldering iron. Lots of fun to get them back where they are supposed to go. Works great now and happy I did it. Good luck on the rest of your projects.

If you have any questions with the install for our kit let me know. We will be in the shop Saturday and Sunday doing a motor swap for a customer.
