The harness is not required for the C5, but is suggested. That link is shared with the C6 and they do not have a harness available. Some just order bulbs without a harness or resistor kit.
when i got my switchbacks, i bought the resistors too thinking i woud use them. I didnt do my homework well either, but found out how much the harness is prefered. bought it recently and i am really please with it. works well without presenting a heat problem.

Sometimes people install resisters if they are only swapping a couple bulbs.
I swapped all my exterior (all four corners, reverse lights, rear plate lights and Halo Tail Lights) and most of my interior bulbs from halogen to LED. I also swapped out my head lights to ACA HIDs and my fog light to HIDs.
I installed the hyperflash harness and I have had no problems since installation 2 years ago. The only issue I ever ran across was when my Driver side HID lows didn't fire up and it was because I bumped the wire loose that connects to my fuse box when I swapped out my battery. Get the hyperflash harness and ditch the resistors.
Thanks all, these last few posts have really assisted me in "doing my homework". That's what my original post was all about, trying to do my homework before I spend any further money and find out I was wrong. So I'm out $8 on the resistors, no big deal there.

Probably your best bet. Because the LEDs take so much less energy than the hologen bulbs, the ECM thinks there is a bulb out based on the low voltage and reacts with the hyperflash similar to when a halogen bulb is burnt out. The hyperflash harness tricks the ECM and cuts off that signal.
The LEDs perform better, look more modern, and are cool so they won't burn out the housings like halogen bulbs that operate at a higher temperature.
I think I just needed to change my mindset from this being an expense to an investment. I'm modernizing the car, preventing the melting of a new housings I just bought, and able to upgrade tails down the road if I choose to.
I spent more than what i wanted to when i worked on my turn signals. First i wanted to just change the housings, they were worn and cracked. then since i wanted to do led's, figured it was a good time. but i noticed both of the signal sockets were burnt, so i swapped those too at the same time. i bought the resistors too since they were cheap, but i couldnt decide where to put them with the heat issue. I recently got the harness and made it all better without any problems. it just turned all into an investment. but you pay more to do things right. i know i now wont have to deal with my turn signals for years to come and make the car look so much newer.
