Default New wheels, sizing..

As some of you may know, i'm new the corvette world.

I have a 2000 C5 in white and was looking to get a set of wheels. I know the rear wheels are wider, but when selecting rims, which sizes do you typically recommend? I see some sets having 17 x 9.5f and 18 x 10r, and some are 18 x 8.5f or 18 x 9.5f and 18 x 10r

I don't plan to race/track the car. It will be spirited driving at most. Also, what size tires are you running in the fronts/rears? Should I keep it the same as stock or go wider?

Here's what I was interested in:

I would go with either of the following combo's.

Front 18" x 9.5" (or 10") with a 275/35/18 tire.
Rear 19" x 10.5" (or 11") with a 305/30/19 tire.

or

Front 19" x 9.5" (or 10") with a 275/30/19 tire.
Rear 19" x 10.5" (or 11") with a 305/30/19 tire.

I recommend the above sizes so that your active handling, and traction control stay in spec.
If you stray too much from the above sizes you could have issues with the C5 computer.

Also....

Do your homework on wheel weights.
Try to stay AWAY from anything more than 24 lbs per wheel.
Stock wheels are very light (19 front / 21 rear).
If you go too heavy a wheel, or heavy tire you WILL feel a performance reduction.
I felt a huge reduction in overall performance with a heavy set of wheels.
I'm just a weekend cruiser type (not a race driver). I sold that heavy wheels a week later.
Learn from my mistake, and money I wasted.

Keep in mind... You get what you pay for...

Most likely I'd do the 18f 19r like you mentioned. I'm going to contact that web site to get the weights.

I'm aware of the performance decrease of a heavier wheel/tire combo. I try to keep the combined weight within 1-2lbs +/- factory. Obviously less weight is better.

Please post up the weights, when you get them.
I would love to see pictures of these on a Mag red II C5 vette. http://www.corvettemods.com/Corvette...m-_p_5879.html
I'm thinking about getting them with some Hankook's.

I went with the same type of wheel (C6 Z06) in Comp Gray.

The sizes I opted for were:

18 x 9.5 with 275/35/18's
19 x 11 with 305/30/19's

Very happy with them, more grip and wider rear tires were a plus!

Nice looking car! Debating if I want black or polished. Both look good on white.

So I found another set of rims that I like, they come in

17 x 9.5 and 18 x 10.5

However, I'm limited to the Eagle F1 SuperCar tires only. The wet traction seems to be average and I'm a little worried. Not that I plan to drive the car in the wet, but you never know.

If you changing rims I would go with at least a 18".
18x18, or 18x19, or 19x19 setups.
Its getting harder and harder to find 17" performance tires.

Check out my tire sizing instructions on my web site.
It should make complete sense to you so you make the right choice for YOUR situation.

www.ToqueZ06.com
How to Determine the correct "Tire Size" for new wheels on a C5 and C5 Z06:

275/35/18, 295/35/18 (Rear is 0.5" larger diameter - should be ok).

265/35/18, 295/35/18 (Rear is 0.8" larger diameter - Better).

275/35/18, 305/35/18 (Rear is 0.8" larger diameter - Best)

I still recommend the following setup's as BEST for tire availability.

Front 18" x 9.5" (or 10") with a 275/35/18 tire. (or 265/35/18)
Rear 19" x 10.5" (or 11") with a 305/30/19 tire.

or

Front 19" x 9.5" (or 10") with a 275/30/19 tire.
Rear 19" x 10.5" (or 11") with a 305/30/19 tire.

So I got a call back and went with the stock C5 Z06 rim sizes
17 x 9.5 and 18 x 10.5

I needed to get them this week since the one rim was slightly bent with worn tires and wouldn't pass inspection. The rims I liked in the larger sizes were on backorder for several weeks or months.

I know its tough shopping for tires now. The stock tire size only lists the F1 SuperCar from TireRack.
