A friend of mine who owns a body shop and used car lot has a 1998 targa top Vette with 56K, K&N cold air filter, aftermarket exhaust(don't know the brand) and automatic. He purchased it at auction last fall and had it in storage over the winter. When I drove it I noticed a few issues: A/C didn't work, e-brake wasn't holding, drivers power seat didn't work. He's had his techs work on fixing the issues and I'm waiting on price. He said it would probably be between 13-14K. After finding this awesome forum, I'm concerned about the EBCM issues and don't want to be stuck w/o anti-lock brakes. I also looked at a Dealer's 2002 convertible with 45k and manual trans. Car interior appears to be in better shape and looks stock. I think I can get it for $19K and maybe even a little better. Is it worth spending the extra money for the newer car and having the ability to fix an EBCM issue? I haven't looked at the codes for my friends car but I know he said he the ABS light did go off but they had to replace the battery since it sat over the winter. The ABS light is now off. Should I go with the newer Vette or keep looking? Thanks in advance.

If you can swing the difference, go with the newer car. Lots of changes were made in the 2001 model year. Look at the info in this thread - it will give you some good ideas on what to look for.
