Went to look at 2002 z06 last night and was pretty disappointed that the sport seats with adjustable lumber and sides were not available. Anyone know otherwise? I am trying to not let this sway my decision

Did you DRIVE the Z06? Once you do, You won't care about the seats too much.
I personally think they are just as comfortable as the sport seats. yep disappointment for sure-especially miss the passenger seat being at LEAST pwr! oh well!
Yeah, The seat issue has been debated before. I think they didn't decide on Sport seats because of weight issues and perhaps their bottom line. I know of at least one guy here that changed TO Sport seats.

I don't think you get a good idea about the seats until you drive one, not just for the "power factor", but to see if they are comfortable and supportive while driving.
I was surprised how comfortble the seats were and haven't given it another thought.
I have a six way power seat in my Expedition with lumbar support, but I still seem to want to sit in the Z06. :D
To the contrary, if your REALLY drive your Z you will see that the seats SUC# beyond Suckiness! There is little lateral support. You absolutely need a harness bar or different seat on roadcourses. I believe Dave Hill said: 1. wanted to save weight; and 2. those that went to the track would replace the seats anyway.
If your seating position is correct, you will find there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Z06 seats (and you will have better control of your car). You should sit closer and more vertical, that way your shoulders "dig" into the seat back and hold you firmly in place. After driving a Z06 on a track, and then a coupe with sport seats, I found the Z06 seats to be more supportive and comfortable.
You should listen to this guy he knows how to get around a track. :yesnod:
I didn't have any problems with them at the track either.

Rather than suggesting that you shouldn't even consider owning a Z06 with the rest of us because you HERETICALLY suggest that you don't love everything about the car as it is HANDED TO US from GM...
I'd say that I have considered the same thing. I haven't confirmed this completely, but my preliminary information is that the sport seats should swap right in place.
Ecklers appears to sell factory repros, AND REAL LEATHER versions of the sport seat as well.
I also think it would make sense to find a wrecked 2001 or 2002 (those seats don't last very well from the factory, so I wouldn't go any older) and if you could get a good enough price, swap them in place.
Plus, when you go to sell the car someday (gasp!) you can put the original seats back in, and they will be in surprisingly good shape.
Both Tom Steele and I have lived in with coupes for some time after moving to the Z. There is an interesting thread started by Tom about some of the differences.
That said, I have to say that for me personally, I've found the seats to be more comfortable than the sport seats. My only gripe is that the passenger seat is totally manual -- no power adjustment at all.
