Default Purchase Advice

Hey guys, recently sold my MKIV Supra and i've been looking to get in the vette community, i've been searching for weeks for an FRC with mods. I went today and checked out a local car it's VERY clean and runs strong. The owner has only owned it for 3 months and says he really wants to get into a z06, also the previous owner did ALL of the modifications and never sent over the receipts/paperwork, so there is no documentation...he is asking 19k as it sits....any advice would be appreciated. Build sheet he sent me attached below, owner that did all of the work is a senior member Wicked99 is his username. I've done my homework and went back and looked through the previous owners posts, and it seems from reading the posts that the work is legit...apparantly his c5z got caught in a flood...he picked up this FRC and basically swapped the entire chasis/drivetrain/suspension into the FRC. Advice would be appreciated

I realize the drive train only has 30, 000 miles but 19, 000 for a 1999 FRC with over 150, 000 miles on the rest of the car seems a little high. I see your looking for a car that has been moded so only you can decide how it meets your wants. Good luck.

I agree... I wonder how many parts on the car now were in the flood?

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't pay $19K for a car with 150K miles on it. But it does have a lot of good mods and if that's what you are looking for, then best of luck with your decision.

I would definitely gather some more information but this could be a nice car.

The problem is that once you jump of into mods and start spending money it gets expensive in a hurry

maybe contact the builder and get some first hand INTEL

good luck

car isn't going to sound like it's worth anything on paper

if he's really gone through the whole car and has proof of it and you want a built car like that it may be worth considering an offer

no way you could buy an frc and build it with those parts and come anywhere near the teens.

so, if that's what you want, i'd chat

friend of mine just paid 30k for a turbo c5z with 60k on the body

I guess I am more cynical than most here, perhaps it is my auto insurance background, or it could be the time spend in retail sales. Money makes people do funny things, and some folks are ethically challenged anyway.

So a guy loses his car to a flood. It now has a salvage title. Another ,or the same guy, decides to salvage some parts and put them into a car with a clear title. Parts are now able to be represented as being more valuable.

Could be true, the parts could be worth running. I am not expert on flood damage, I am more familiar with salt water corrosion. I would be very concerned if it was under salty water for any time.

I can't tell you the value of this car. Some might call it a deal , others a Frankenstein car. I am justly paranoid about all the slick people selling used cars, because my used car skill level is low. My market place skill is very good, which accounts for the paranoia about this deal.

It's your money, at my skill level I would be unable to answer all the questions about this car. Hopefully, you know enough about what you are looking at to do better.

I was trying to point out that this could be a perfect setting for someone to sell a pig in a poke. The cat gets out of the bag after you buy it. I can't think of anymore clichés, but the fact that there are some common ones that apply well to this situation makes me pause.

I guess it depends on your money. Some people bet that amount all the time. I would rather be in a situation with less risk, my money is tight, and there are a lot of things to buy in this world.

Gain involves risk, as you know. I bought my car on instinct, didn't have time to minimize the risk in the transaction. I also trusted the seller, I can read people a little better than I can kick tires. And I can kick some tires, being a car lot veteran.

Eric (wicked99) is a member of the forum and did own a 99 pewter FRC. Corvette repair and modification is how he makes his living. That said; I've never dealt with him personally so this isn't an endorsement. Simply passing on pertinent info. PM him and take it from there
