Default convertible c5Z??

Hello, I am new to the forum and I could use some insight please.

There is a convertible 2003 Z06 in my town for sale. It was originally a 2003 convertible that had the engine and tranny stolen every thing else was intact. The owner found a wrecked 2003 Z06 and added motor, trans, suspension, side vents, new paint and other parts from the Z to create a convertible Z. The title is a green title not a salvage title or a reconstructed vehicle title. The title mileage shows 9999999 and states "not original miles". Carfax shows original miles of about 36k before the conversion the odometer show 6500 miles. Should I steer clear of the car or continue to research into it. I haven't had it checked out by a service center...yet. The asking price is $21000.

Thanks

Way too much money for a car without the original drive train.

There is no mystique about a Z. It's basically the same car with different heads and cam and some minor suspension components. Any C5 can be made to perform like a Z with after market upgrades.

So, find the car you like and mod it to your preferences.

Good luck in your search. Welcome to the forum.

That isn't a "convertible C5Z"...just a C5 'vert with goodies. Price is way high unless there is a ton of documentation.

There have been a few folks that have lopped the hard-top off a C5Z and made a true C5Z 'vert...

There is no such thing as a Z06 convertible from the factory.

Some have added Z06 stuff to a C5 Vert, and some have even cut the top off there Z06 to make is a Convertible. There was no official Z06 convertible from the factory though.

Z06's have an "S" (for LS6 Z06) in the VIN number.... Coupe's / Verts will have a "G" (for LS1)

2003 CORVETTE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS (VIN)
1G1YY22G535100001 - 1G1YY22G235135469 (Corvette Coupe, Convertible, and Z06 Hardtop)

1 (First Digit) - Country of Origin. 1 - United States
G (Second Digit) - Manufacturer. G - General Motors
1 (Third Digit) - Manufacturer Division. 1 - Chevrolet
YY (Fourth & Fifth Digits) - Carline/Series. YY - Corvette/Coupe
1/2/3 (Sixth Digit) - Bodystyle of Car. 1 - Hardtop, 2 - Two Door Hatchback Coupe, 3 - Two Door Convertible
2 (Seventh Digit) - Type of Restraint System. 2 - Acitve (Manual) Belts with Driver and Passenger Inflatable Restraint System.
G (Eighth Digit) - Type of Engine. G - LS1: 5.7 Liter, 346CI Engine, S - LS6: 5.7 Liter, 346 CI Engine
7 (Ninth Digit) - Check Digit (varies)

Used to calculate the characters in the serial number and gives it a single digit code that can be used to verify the serial number is legitimate. (Note: The Check digit number varies depending on each specific VIN number.)

3 (Tenth Digit) - The Model Year. 3 - 2003
5 (Eleventh Digit) - Location of the Assembly Plant. 5 - Bowling Green, Kentucky
1XXXXX (Twelfth thru Seventeenth Digits) - Plant Sequence Numbers.
