Default 2003 Z06 info

Hey guys I am looking to buy my first C5 so why not make it a Z? Here's my question; Is it possible to find excactly what I want for the money I want to spend? Here it is. 2003 Z06, Black, under 50K mileage, no mods one maybe 2 owners all for $20K? I have been looking for about 2 months and they seemed to be priced around 23-26K. That's a little more than I can go. I'm 53, currently own an '87 vert thats not driven but sits in the garage waiting on me to paint and finish interior and has been for the last 12 yrs! I'm not getting any younger so I think I'll get excactly what I want or I'll be sorry. Whats your thoughts...

Finish your older Vette & then sell it or sell as is.

Use the money from the sale to buy the C/5 you may want.
Wait until this winter, when C/5 Corvette prices more than likely will be lower to purchase.

You can try for the winter, but I think 20k is going to be a stretch for one/two owner Z with under 50k miles.

Really the only place you might be able to find one is in Texas - for some reason Zs seem to go cheaper there - I think more available. I bought my 2003 Z with 41,500 miles, two owner, this Spring for 22,800 here in NC. I would have preferred black but settled for millenium yellow. Yellow ones are faster anyway.

For that price, I don't think you can afford to be picky about color/owner history.

Hey thanks for the input. I have just found an 03 black with 38,000 miles on it and they are asking $21000. And it's about 2 hours away. From the looks of the pictures I think it's at a dealership. Trying to find out more info.

Unmolested C5Z06s are getting harder to find, so if you find a good one, suggest not procrastinating and go for it if it all checks out and you can swing the money.

that's not at all a bad deal. also the buying in winter thing is a myth. what happens in winter is there is less supply as many guys don't even have their cars for sale.

good deals come up randomly and 20k for a low mileage 03 is a good deal. the only sub 50k mile cars i've seen sell in the high teens are yellow on mod red. the ronald mcdonald color combo. it's absolutely the lowest value color combo of all the Z's

That car is identical to mine. As long as it is in good condition, I would snap it up for that price.

I really appreciate you guys, heres the scoop on the $21000 one I was refering to: I called & it is a car lot in Nashville, turns out the car was stolen in Maryland and recovered in Georgia. The windsheild was broken out and the VIN plate was taken. The state of Maryland issued a new VIN # and it is a clear title. That all made me a bit nervous so I am going to pass on this deal. The dealer said the new VIN # is only 8 digits and I ask if I could get any history on the car by running this VIN and he said he didnt think so. So I just called about another one in Alabama and the guy told me he had 2 cars on Craigslist, the other one sold first so he did not want to sell his Z but couldn't get back into Craigslist to delete it. So I guess the ole saying is true: Good things come to those who wait...........

that car would be considered a salvage title in most states.

big value kill

the term "drive it like you stole it" also has real meaning

no idea if the thief drove around in 2nd gear at 6500 for 5 miles straight or jumped the railroad tracks at 100mph

Another saying that is usually true is:

"If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't."

Buyer beware ... there are a lot of crappy cars out there and fewer and fewer "gems for cheap".

Just a heads up.. guy at work here picked up a mint and by mint, I mean practically showroom quality, red 2003 z06. 12,000 miles. No mods. Completely stock down to the flagpole antenna. He paid $18,000.

I think he's an extremely rare example, but it's possible I guess.

Also, I suggest looking at another color besides black. This paint is hard as hell to keep clean.

Keep on the look out. I bought a 02 clean Z for under 20k this year. It took a long time to find but it does happen. Mine did have 57k miles when i bought it and the mods I wanted. Cam, comp valve springs, cold air, and full exhaust. That being said I haven't seen another deal like that this year. Maybe winter and the C7 release will drop some prices. Good luck.

Where are the places to look other than on here & Craigslist. I don't look much on Ebay but I know that is an option.

You can find that deal. I found my "Unmolested"/stock Black 2003 Z06 with 42K miles on it for $22K. It says it had four owners, but it looked like at least two of them were dealerships. That was here in Texas. Someone above said the best deals are here. Maybe they are onto something.
