If your dad has a gt it's a hair faster than a c5 so you will be be going slower but still a fun car. Definately check insurance. Also these cars are getting up there in age. Some of them are 16-17 years old so shop around
He has a v6, but it's fun to drive, just not "enough." I don't feel the kickback when I floor it. The torque isn't there. I really love mustangs, and looking at an 05 gt, buy at the same time, that 2000 c5 is calling my name. Just feels like either one I choose, I'll regret it.

Just don't rush into anything. It's easy to get caught up in emotions and make quick decisions. I know this from experience. Examine your options. I've been a Mustang guy myself and was debating between a used C5 and a new 5.0. After driving both, they are two completely different animals. The Mustang has more brute styling and launching power. The C5 has a sleek design that feels more like a decent handling sports car than a muscle car. If you can afford it, by all means do it. I know how it feels to be car obsessed.
I hate to be "that guy" but what about school? To me, there are more important things at your age than a car. I bought mine at 23 after i graduated college and got my first real job. I still lived like a broke college student at the time and the cash added up quick. I bought a used C5 with cash and put a down payment on a house all in the first year. Things seem to fall in place when you prioritize and a car should never be at the top of the list.
For school, I'm going to the local community college for PTA. 2 year degree, 1 year of pre reqs and one year of clinicals. Start off making 42k+ a year. I don't pln on having kids. I really just want the job to help fund me getting started into racing. That's what I really want to do.
I got my first Vette at 19-20. I ended up getting rid of my 1991 because the engine blew thanks to a neighbor I let borrow the car. I could not afford to repair it.
Assuming you take care of the car it should last but be advised it can be expensive to repair Corvettes. They can break because nothing is a guarantee. Just replacing a clutch could cost $2000+ .
Can you afford a repair like that? If not I advise you to stay towards something newer and cheaper. I made significantly more than you do now and that was 11 years ago when money was worth more.
My insurance way back then was $160 for just me and one car with no issues on my driving record. In todays money I would expect well over $200 a month for just you.
My insurance now on all our stuff is $950 and it is absolutely a steal for what we are getting so don't expect your parents policy to help you much. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Someone touched on it earlier and we only point it out because you already have another car--get a Corvette Museum membership for $50 a year and get your insurance through them! Since the C5 is a collector car and not your daily driver you would qualify--insurance for my C5 and SL500 ran me $450 a YEAR

As for tires, I had my C5 for 14 years and bought all my tires right here used (70-90% remaining) off the forum in the C5 "Parts for sale" section. There you can find really good deals on pretty much anything, including mods, you want for you C5.

You've been given all the best financial tips already. As for the Corvette or Mustang topic. I've had both, my previous car was a 2009 GT (pretty much the same as an 05), and I recommend the Corvette. Better gas mileage, better ride comfort, better handling, and more power.

It's good to have a plan. As far as the C5, it will make you forget about mustangs. They do tend to have more problems than most "normal" cars and tires will eat you up, but they are still very reliable for what they are. Good luck on your search and remember there are thousands to choose from and the perfect one is out there.
