Im guessing this is a common problem with C5 vettes huh? Mine is the same color and my hood is also jacked up like that
Not sure, it started a year ago. I thought someone poured acid on the hood as it is not oxidizing anywhere else like the sunroof. I have had the car for 4 years so maybe it had been repainted?
But I am happy now, doesn't look as ghetto anymore.......
This is not a common problem .Only with C5 owners that do not take of their cars . Wax and polish this should not happen.
Washed weekly by hand. Clay Barred and Polished monthly with MENZURNA SIP finished with either Zaino or Wolfgangs. So yeah it does happen.
Thanks for the useless comment!
Lol i knew someone was gonna hit me with this, ok quick to label someone an abuser of a corvette because they read something and took it the wrong way. It was just a question, i say this because my older brother bought a used 02 Vette off a small dealer lot and a couple months into owning it the paint started fading like in the picture. Fast forward to the behinning of the year when i purchased my 99 Vette of of a small dealer. Took it home washed it and took my sweet *** time waxing it. Gets waxed once a month and washed about 2 times a week (DD) and after a couple of months my hood did the same thing. And i take really great care of my car.

Hey mine is a dd and since I don't have a garage anymore and live close to the beach I am sure they are all contributing factors.....but hey its all good now
Polishing a car monthly isn't great for longevity. Polishing is removing clear. Ideally you correct your finish then learn to maintain it
Hmmmm curious how the only part of the body that was oxidizing was the hood. Not the Top, not the fenders, not the rear panel. I must have been doing something wrong it seems? Oh wait, I did the whole car the way I described. Must have been too much pressure, too much polish, too much wind, wrong pad, full moon etc....
How about the hood had crappy paint and it got bad with age?

Man in no way was I trying to say you caused the damage to happen. I'm truly sorry if it came across that way. It seems pretty obvious there was an issue with the finish on the hood. I was just trying to say that polishing once a month is not to good in the long run for a cars finish.

I hear what you are sayin and I appreciate it. I am sure there were a lot of contributing factors, I thought maybe a jealous husband did it at first! Just kidding, but being out in the elements for the last year I am sure didn't help. Just happy it look better now.....

Or it could simply be the color of the paint and the angle to sun where it was commonly parked.
I used my IR thermometer on a black coupe at work. Here are temps I shot:
Hood: 167°
Front Fender: 170°
Roof: 170° (tinted lexan)
Roof hoop: 177° (between removable roof and back glass)
Back glass: 167°
My 03 AE temps shot at the same time were 20° less than these temps.
I shot a white car in the parking lot and their temps were 20° less than mine.
Honestly that is the first time I have seen one like that. It could be as it was mentioned a combo of the color, heat, location near salt water, etc. Another factor could that the previous owners could have had a cheap paint job done in order to resell and it was not done properly so it did not hold well.
It doesn't matter now though-that sucker looks brand new!
