This is what happens when a $40K+ car gets older and sold for $18K. Not all circumstances of course but, you get people that buy these cars that have no business being in one and the 4 listed above are probably prime examples of the end result of the car being pushed past it's capabilities. You can't fix stupid.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Expect more of the same. Rob
There are so many C5's they will never be collectable (in my life time) so folks drive them like you stole them!
Lot's of C5's but so many are coupes. Only 6000 original FRC cars, 2000 Z16's and we all know many of them have already bit the dust. I don't know how long it will take to deplete the numbers but I wasn't speaking of the everyday coupes. I should have been more specific.
Soooo....... Basically the problem is that poor people are driving corvettes, and that this is actually an economic problem ?
I am not exactly sure where in the pictures this information could be found, but this thinking is certainly all the way fresh. I didn't take it any further than common driver error, because I see so much bad driving every day.
Mine may not be a collector's item but if I don't trade it for a newer Vette, my grandson is going to get it in 3 yrs. Then I'll have to get one of them new fangled C6's!!

Actually, I hear talk of a Corvette that's fangled even newer!
Not completely true, that silver vert crashed because the owner refused to remove the BSMs.
You're ignoring the evidence. Look again at the silver convertible. The door with the BSM is not damaged at all. Proof positive of the advantage of having BSM's.
Hmmm. I thinking the '97 c5 will be a collectible. First year of the c5 and GM only made 9,700 and only 1,400 white. I'm rounding the numbers.
Would like to know how I can find out how many are left?
I can at least tell you one is sitting in the parking lot outside
As someone else mentioned, the dropping price has a lot to do with it. These are easily in reach of students in or just graduating from college (I only paid 12.9k for mine). Sad comment on my generation, but very few people have any respect for what is under a Corvette hood and how quick showing off can take a turn for the worst.
Just watch someone without experience drive one of these with AH turned off! They get real twitchy with it off!
What's Active Handling? Oh that's right. Perhaps I am weird but my 2000 doesn't have it and I couldn't be happier. Just my personal opinion but I just think the car shouldn't out drive you. Do some low speed and high speed auto cross, take a driving school, learn what happens when you get stupid in a safe environment and you will become a more competent operator of your vehicle. That's better for all of us on the roads.

Let's see only poor people can drive these cause the price has dropped and we're seeing more wrecks because of it. I throw the BS flag. That argument would only hold water if corvettes were being sold on the buy here pay here note lots. Poor people don't have 10 to 25 grand in cash laying around. Poor people can't convince a bank or credit union to finance a 10 to 17 year old car. You have to have cash or a stellar history with the institution loaning you money. Most won't finance any car over 7 years old. You have to have assets, reputation, history, to finance an old car like these.
