My c5 needs tires and im worried about the apes that work at the goodyear shop by me.Im thinking the car will be damaged on there lift so im putting the vette on jackstands and just bringing them the wheels. Is this normal or am i f#%king sick in the head.
I do the same thing. No one else sits in my drivers seat. And I'm like this because my 98 was at a dealership for an engine swap years ago and the goons had the front fenders smashed up in the lift.
If you don't like taking a chance on someone f___ing up your car than that's the only way to do it. I would also go as far as to verify with the service tech you deal with to visually verify with you present the condition of your rims and have something signed stating the condition they are in. If a rim comes back gouged after mounting it's too late to say it wasn't there before and have them be held accountable. Most tire shops just treat your car like everyone elses. In and out as quickly as possible with little attention to being careful with lifting and mounting. Rocker damage is very expensive to have fixed and only takes a second of someones carelessness or lack of experience with lifting a C5 to do damage. Unless they let me position the lifting arms under the car I will not take the chance. unfortunately we don't always have a choice but in this case you do.
I'd say you're paranoid. I love my Vette as much as anyone and I do as much work as I can myself, however, at the end of the day you drive (I assume given the post location) a C5 Corvette... It's not an Italian exotic so what's the harm? If they mess up your car document it and file a claim with insurance. Some people take their $15 -$25K cars too seriously IMHO
Never trust a dealer, and visit your tire store before if you are planning on them to jack up your car.
Safest bet is what you are doing, jack up your car on stands and give them the wheels.....
The pic's of your C5 on the lift is nothing short of amazing, and not in a good way!
I take my Corvettes to the local Discount Tire. I drive it into the area where they will be changing the tires. They then carefully position, while I watch, 4 jacks and lift the car. They do not use an hydraulic lift. Their tire dismounting and mounting machines do not damage the rims. I am there watching them do this. They have always been great to deal with.
If you have a great tire dealer like we do in the Atlanta area
then no need to worry. They deal with high end cars and really
are a class act. Tires, brakes and yes they know how to jack
up a corvette. Butler Tire 5 locations in the atlanta area
that is why i put on the elite engineering rail savers immediately after I got mine. I then remind the tire shop every time that it has specific jack points. So far so good.

It just sounds like you need another shop. I learned the hard way to be careful who does the work.
As suggested, you could do part of the work, or just call some high end shops and ask them who is good in town. I didn't see a location for you, but even a hot rod shop should be able to steer you to a quality installer. Not every car is appropriate for the good year shop. There must be some expensive cars kicking around in your area, just call where they go .
I trying to learn about my car's upkeep, the experts laid on me a simple guideline, talk to people. The good shops know where to go, according to the need.

I think that this is an "enthusiast's thing". I've done this for all my cars...even my pickups! Take the wheels off myself and then deliver them to the shop.

This happened to mine also. After asking the guy if he knew how to jack up the car on the jacking points 3 times and him saying "yes"... he almost tore my fender off! I told him to lower the f*cking jack!!!! and then he said "I guess you have a lot of money into the car". I was like "you almost ruined my car, are you kidding??"
I recently bought tires and was worrying about the same thing. I ended up taking my wheels off and bringing them down to the shop and installed them myself. Only issue would be the TPMS you will need to being the car back to them to reset the sensors.
