Default Sellers honesty!

It seems like I've been having bad luck lately buying used item on line, a problem I've have very rarely in the past 10 or 15 years. First off on a set of C6 Z06 seats for my C5Z and now on a set of HRE's bought here. When a seller states that the wheels are in excellent condition having one spot on one wheel that you have to be a couple inches from to see the damage you would expect to be getting a very well kept set of wheels. Upon receipt you find all four wheels having a reasonable amount of curb rash but nothing that couldn't be cleaned up with a little TLC. After closer inspection, but not much closer you see a flat spot on the bead and inside of the front barrel. I set that wheel aside and had been doing a little research on repairs this morning an needed the SN# off the inside if the wheel and now noticed that one of the spokes is cracked all the way through! Come on people lets be honest! A lot of us depend on good second hand parts to make our builds more reasonable. This little deals going to end up doubling my cost, just what I was trying to avoid!

What does the seller have to say in his defense?

Buying and selling used items is a TWO way street. YOU need to ask for more pictures or more details about the item. If they can't come up with more pictures of the item then that should raise a red flag. If you're going to trust every seller and everything they say, then eventually you are bound to get screwed.

Have you tried contacting the seller and asking for a refund? Another thing to consider is a partial refund to account for the cost to repair damage not initially reported.

Had plenty of pictures and talk on the phone, no red flags! I've bought a lot of stuff online so do what I can. I haven't contacted the seller again but will as soon as I figure out all options. I did get an email from him to be sure I received the rims and had responded then that I was a little disappointed in the condition, this was before having time to look them over carefully. He did not respond.

Also check to see if they have a good eBay standing as well especially on large purchases like those

Obviously the first step is contact the seller and describe what is wrong. Let him respond on what he will offer as a remedy, if anything. If he doesn't make a reasonable offer, then you may ask a mod for assistance. Sometimes that works.

Sucks that you have to go through all this - the wheels should have been as described by the seller and not a surprise to you.

It seems it took a very close inspection for you to find the cracked spoke. Is is possible the seller was unaware of it?

No, I received the wheels on a Friday afternoon as I was heading out of town and had just a second to un box and inspect. The first one I pulled had curb rash and after that I only focused there for damage. It was easy to see the small flat spot on the one so it was set aside never think that there may have been another issue.. The break is quite visible, would have been hard to miss..

Waiting on a quote from HRE on a replacement but expect about 1,200.00

Talking to one repair place welding is not an option?

If he supplied plenty of pictures and the crack is hard to miss then maybe it happened during shipping? In that case it may be covered. Show us the pictures and maybe we can see if it is visible.

Heck... I have enough trouble getting NEW items delivered as ordered the first time! I just assume now that when I order something it will be wrong the first pass. If they get the order right at least half the time things are damaged in shipment these days (and I am guessing it will only be getting worse).

When you buy 2nd hand you have to hope the seller is completely up front AND you usually have to accept all the liability for shipping damage (good luck getting anything from the carriers - especially on a used item).

I find I have better luck if the seller has been on the forum longer. Some forms have seller ratings so those who have bought from them can give a comment.

Good luck.

My wife always asks me if I'm trying to jeopardize a sale. And I expect everyone to be the same way.

Honest people are like that. They expect others to be straight, when the reverse seems to be the norm.

I think the rule is, when buying an item that is readily available new, then buy it new.

If you want to save money and buy used, then only buy if you can view the item personally and inspect it for any flaws first, then you may save money on a used example.

Only buy unseen, used items if they are "rare" and you are willing to either put up with imperfect items, or are willing to pay for any renovation to bring them up to standard.

Trusting a seller's description can be unreliable. The seller may not necessarily be intentionally deceiving, but rather have different standards and/or values as to what is "mint" or "perfect". And some sellers intentionally deceive.

Buying unseen goods can often gain you an as-new item at a bargain price, but the laws of chance determine that eventually you will discover a disappointing transaction.

I'm sorry you have experienced a disappointing transaction, I hope you can find a satisfactory way to resolve it.

Most of the stuff I buy and sell on here goes thru with no issues. Buying from members with a history helps. I usually browse thru their previous posts to see if it is someone I wouldn't mind dealing with. All the stuff I sell is usually to get out of my garage so if someone is not happy with it, they can ship it back and I will refund the money no questions asked. Hopefully the LG G2s I am about to sell will be no drama.

Was it shipped through USPS? The last two things I've shipped through USPS have been damaged. Unfortunately they're the only thing anywhere close to me so I always just include insurance or wait until I go home away from school to ship things.

If you paid with paypal, you will more than likely win, along with ebay. As long as you didn't pay as a 'gift'.
