Default Lifting a C5

The only place that has used a lift on my Vette is Corvette Mikes. I'm getting tires put on this week and would like to know if there's anything to watch out for when the mechanic is raising the car up.

One shop told me that with a Corvette you have to open the doors, trunk, and hood when raising/lowering the car or risk damage. Is this true?

You're going to Becker Tire in Anaheim, right? They know what they're doing.

One thing about this corner of OC is that there are a lot of exotic cars in the area. If you want some eye-candy, stop by DC Motors on La Palma just east of Lakeview. Ferraris and Lambos and Jags, oh my.

When these cars were veritable flexible flyers, that may have been the case, but your C5 is plenty stiff enough that you need not worry.

Everyone has different ideas but I think opening panels before lifting a c5 vet is crazy, I'd be more concerned of the guy telling me he had to do it working on my car then one who said nothing.

No need to open the doors/hood/etc. The C5 has a very stiff frame with little flex so it will be fine to keep all those things closed. Just be sure they use jacking pucks in the recommended factory locations when lifting the car to avoid damaging the bottom of the rocker panels.

A couple shops I checked with don't use hockey pucks but said they don't have any problems (like they'd say anything else).

If I can get get the same deal Lee did I'm going with Becker, they obviously know how to lift it.

When taking a Corvette to shop to have tires changed has anyone brought their own jacking pucks and floor jack? If I do that, what stage of paranoia do you think I have reached? or just

When I asked the owner of a sports car specialty shop to use my pucks for lifting my vette he simply told me that he doesn't need them as he knows what he is doing.I was a little embarrassed as this is a very good shop but, then again better safe than sorry. My 01 convertible has been on a lift at least a dozen times an none of the doors, trunk, or hood has been opened in fact I have never heard of this being done before.

A have owned 2 C2 and a C5, if the frame flexes enough to jam the openings the frame is shot.
