Wheel barrels
My wife is getting new tires on her 2002. The tire place said I could clean the barrels of the wheels while they are doing it. What should I use to clean them and what should I use to seal them?

If they are the factory wheels, they are clearcoated so use something that is clear coat safe. I have always used bug and tar remover to get some of the grime off the wheels after washing with a good soap and water.

General purpose degreaser is a safe bet. When I worked as a detailer, that's what we used to clean almost everything.

Krud Kutter is terrific stuff for this job....spray on, wait a few seconds, then hit it lightly with a bristle brush, then rinse well.

I use WD-40. It cuts the grime and removes the adhesive from the wheel weights. (I have the stock painted Z06 wheels BTW)

What? You don't pull your wheels and clean the barrels on a regular basis?
Or maybe I'm just **** about keeping my car clean....

If by "regular" you mean "every other pass of Halley's Comet", the answer is yes.

I thought a wheel barrel had 1 tire and tipped over easily?
So what's a corvette wheel barrel? A super fast dirt hauling device?

Or a wheel borrow? That's where you loan me a wheel and I never bring it back? Oh wait that's the family loaner plan.

Never loan your wheels to anyone. You might get a wrecked car in return.

Nah, that's easy. A few cans of lemon Pledge or a couple bottles of Murphy's Oil Soap and you'd be set.

Some people have too much extra time on their hands.
