Battery cable removal

A pair of mini Channel Locks or a mini vise grip will grab hold and let you remove it and when your at the parts store pick up some new bolts and the proper wrench to tighten/loosen the new ones. I could never understand spending the big $$$ on the car and cheaping out on a tool to do your own work.......

What did you pay $4 for?

In the meantime I have to go and take the smog test shortly so not removing any cables
.

He LIED to my wife (GF at the time) and said that the acid could not eat into the hose. DAMN LIER.
I replaced the AC line, battery, and put the right terminal bolt into the wiring harness. This was eons ago and the side terminal bolts were few and far between. They are readily available now.
From the PIC it does look like someone put a round cap over the bolt for "decorative" ??? reasons. Use a pair of channel locks or vice grips and see if it pops off. If not unscrew it and replace it with a real side terminal bolt.

Being the curious type I had to find out what this mysterious shiny object was on top of my battery. Didn't want to wait until I had to change the battery and maybe get stumped.
I took a pair of plyers and started to twist slowly. It was turning but not coming off. I turned some more but nothing was being unscrewed. Couldn't be a bolt so I pulled as hard as I could. Finally top came off and I proceeded to drop it. It fell somewhere way down under the battery.
Tried a magnet tool to no avail and reached underneath with the same result.Since I didn't want to hear it rattling while driving or for some crazy reason making contact with the positive post, I removed the battery.
Couldn't see the damn piece. So proceeded to the next step and took out the four screws holding the battery pan.
Pulled out the pan and heard a sound hitting metal. Fortunately I could see the top so I picked it up and proceeded to reinstall battery.
I was planning on getting a smog test soon but now that I have taken the battery out, it looks like I will have to do some driving to reset the car computer. Good thing I have until November to take the smog test.
Does anyone have a similar story of replacing or changing a part then having to remove it because of dropping a tool or a screw/bolt?

Try a thin blade screw driver to pry the cover up and off.
