I just had a defective AC compressor on my corvette replaced a few days ago. Problem now is that when the engine compartment really warmes up and the AC is switched on something within the AC drive causes a very loud squeal. The noise only stops when I switch the AC off, otherwise I'm afraid it might shread the belt. Longest I tried running it like that was 10-15 sec.
When the engine is cold or cooler and the AC is switched on, there is no noise at all with the AC working total silent.
Along with the AC compressor I replaced the tensioner, ac idle pulley and the belt (Gates). So all the AC drive components are new.
Any idea what the problem is ??
I did try out the AC when I picked it up but like I said it only occurs when the car really starts to get warm.
The shop is not convinced that the compressor is the cause

If it makes noise when the compressor clutch is engaged, and then stops when you turn off the AC , its the compressor, because all the other belt related parts are still turning.

If they still don't want to own up to it, have them put a stethoscope on the compressor housing....that ought to convince them! And, they'll need to visit the hearing doctor too!
