Default Question on winter storage.

What is better for the engine. 1) to put the vette away w/a full tank of gas and stybil added. Just plug in the battery tender and cover her up until spring. Or 2) to start the engine once a month and let it warm up to 190* then turn it off and recover.

I would say #1, I've been doing the exact same thing with my cars for the last 8 years and never had a problem. I usually change the oil just before I put them away. JMHO

1. Oil change
2. Full tank of gas w/Stabil, then drive for 15 minutes to get Stabil into the fuel system
3. Connect battery tender
4. Cover car
5. Check every few weeks for critters
6. Wait for spring

The exception is that I would take it out during the winter if conditions permit, meaning dry roads with no salt.

have been mega-discussions on that over the years. - Don't start it, I'm not going re-re-re-recite the reasons why. I'm sure you can easily dig them up.

That's the process I use. I do also put some old carpet squares down under the tires to keep them off the cement floor.

It just cracks me up how some people think it's some special ritual to put their car away for the winter! Changing the oil before you store it is pointless in my book.

Fill the tank to the very top, put trickle charger on, put cover on, walk away till spring!

Take the car out in the spring, take a long easy drive to burn old gas, do an oil change and enjoy the summer!

So you're not worried about the potential for rust to form due to moisture buildup?

I believe on the cylinder heads. I'm just going off memory from something I read. It may only be an issue for long term storage.

I plan on filling the tank and adding a can of Seafoam. Then keeping a battery tender on and driving it once a month if weather permits.

I would not start it up unless it is to drive it after the sleep

Rust? In an aluminum engine? Maybe the valve springs, timing chain, steel stuff. I've sat cars and boats for a year with no issue. Got one sitting now on its 2nd year with stabil and it won't start. No stabil cars start. Not blaming the stabil, just pointing out the irony.
