Remember, to mount high next to the mirror. Vettes are low, you want to get max range, plus you have a better chance of picking up Laser back scatter from cars in front of you.
I'm planning use a Blendmount and Escort Passport Max2, and routing the wiring around the windshield.
IMO, with VASCAR and Instant-On type radar using a regular detector doesn't provide enough protection. Combining a real good detect along with an user network (such as ESCORT Live) provides an extra safety margin.
Escort 9500ix or the REDLINE version...then I get a BlendMount to attach it up tight under rear view mirror and then get a long Escort Hard Wire kit plus go to parts store and get a fuze piggy-back (jumper)... then you pull out appropriate fuze from panel under dash or kick panel...plug in your adapter and then put back in the fuze beside the other fuze that goes to your detector. Slide the hard wire kit on....run it under carpet, A pillar and headliner to your mirror for the detector plug...then run the other end which has your MUTE button to somewhere on console or lower dash for easy access....and done. I had this in my Lexus and also the wifes 335i and will be doing same for C5Z as well.
I have been running an Escort 9500 since they came out, before that I had the 8500. It has no false alarms and when it goes of for K or Ka band there is a cop around. I mounted it on the sun visor using the Southern Car Parts mount they make. I also use the Invisi Cord and power it from tapping the rear view mirror. It is a great setup and has not let me down.
I have the Passport 9500ci. Tiny viewing window by rear view mirror, controls down by shifter, all receivers in grill and mounted to rear license plate. All wiring tucked in. As close to stealth as possible.
Previous owner had it done, I couldn't justify just about $2K on a radar detector. Amazing unit though...
So I want to get a GOOD radar detector. My only real criteria is I want to mount it up near the rear view mirror and don't want a power cable hanging down. Any suggestions on ones without a power cord that anyone is using?????
I will sell you this one used twice. $ 100+ shipping
I certainly would not say the V1 arrows are overhyped. When I got the first of 4 years ago I tried to disregard the arrows (especially when pointing toward the rear) several times just because I couldn't see what it was telling me was there.
Same expereince yesterday with the same result...about the time I decided to ignore the back pointing arrows an unmarked car came hustling by to pull the guy that just passed me at 85mph. And I was just about to go show him what up...very glad I didn't.
