So I want to get a GOOD radar detector. My only real criteria is I want to mount it up near the rear view mirror and don't want a power cable hanging down. Any suggestions on ones without a power cord that anyone is using?????
Just bought & sold a V1 detector. Took a trip & once out on the freeway? Every time I passed a cell tower (and there are tons of them)...... The Valentine would max out. Super frustrating to say the least.... So now I set the cruise 5mph over & roll the dice....
Need to call Valentine to see how they plan to combat that. I had the most recent version before I'm asked...
Do some research, anything from BEL, Passport (same companies) and Valentine are great, differences in performance are minor, its other convenience features that make the real differences..
If you have a I-phone I recommend the Cobra I-radar and wire it into the rear view mirror. I love mine and works great. Will pick up radar long before you see them giving you plenty of time to get slowed down. Very little false signals unless going through large city.

My son sent me some information on the IPhone radar app. Has anyone used this? I couldn't find it in the ap store. Here's what he sent.
"Pop,
A phone radar detector app works differently than a traditional radar detector. The phone doesn't actually detect a signal like the old fashioned detectors do. It does something even better. The iPhone radar detector app receives information from all of the other drivers travelling the roads, highways and interstates of America. Anyone familiar with social networking understands what a great asset this can be. Information can be instantly accessed
Here's how it works. You install the iPhone detector app. As you drive down the road, you encounter a police speed camera setup along the side of the road. You use the app to enter the information by pressing one button and it marks your location when you spotted the radar. It instantly uploads to the network and anyone else with the app receives the update as they approach the area. The app can even transfer the data to your GPS app to give you a visual representation of the problem areas. This app is being used by truckers on an increasing basis."

I use it all the time however you can use the radar detector like a normal detector without having to use your phone. The App is in the store under Cobra Iradar.
I will agree with everybody that the Valentine is probably the best on the market however it has a price to match. I had a valentine and it was great however when looking to buy a new detector I did not want to spend a lot of money. The Iradar had great reviews and I have to say it was worth every penny. It has saved us many times and even during some high speed blast. The App works really well however it is easier to use if there is a passenger. Most of the time for normal highway driving we just use the radar without the App. If we are doing some spirited driving then we will use the App for the extra features.
Any cheat sheet on how it is wired to the mirror? I guess I am wondering which connectors you used to plug the wire into the mirror?
You can buy a kit that will connect it in however there is a power and ground for the mirror. I just looked on here and found the wiring schematic and cut and spliced the detector wires into the harness going to the mirror. If you take your time and do it right it will look factory. Best part is when you shut the car off the detector also turns off.
I use the Iradar app all the time on my Iphone and love it. It has saved me a time or two from stumbling into a radar trap three miles around the corner or over the hill. There seems to be a lot more people that have discovered it and use it lately.

I just took a phone plug in cord, cut it about 8 -10" long and attached two male wire ends With aprox. 1/8" tabs on them. then pressed them into the back of the plug that goes to mirror On my car (`03 Z06) Looking from front to rear at the mirror plug, the 12V. wire is on the far left and is a brown wire. The Ground wire is orange and is the second one in from the right (there are 2 orange wires on the far right) again this is looking towards the rear of car. My detector (V1) turns on & off with the ign. My friend Vince G. Made me a mounting bracket that mounts under the visor clip, and the V 1 is Velcro`d to it. It is right next to the mirror and not noticable from outside the car. When I want to take it out, I just unplug the cord from the V 1 , and pop it off the Velcro. Hope this helps you .
I run a Blendmount and mirror-tap wire for my Escort 9500xi. Really happy with the ease of installation, ease of use, portability from car to car(I've got a Blendmount and mirror-tap in my truck), and of course the 9500xi's capabilities.
