I was driving behind a jeep yesterday when another jeep passed going in the opposite direction. Then I saw it, one jeep driver waved to the other and the other waved back. Did jeep drivers steal our "Corvette wave"?
Goodwill is not limited to Corvette owners. When I had my Harley other riders waved all the time; even more so than I've seen Corvette owners do.
When I heard about the "Corvette Wave", my first thought was "Hey, they stole that from bikers!"
(Although the "Bike Wave" wasn't really brand-specific.)

The weird thing I've noticed is friendly people just like to wave. I've seen unfriendly people wave too, although they must be real lazy because they wave just 1 finger.
When I was a youngin', Dad bought a new '60 Corvair, the wave was alive then, Corvair owners often waved at other Corvairs. Same thing in the Fiero community. I wouldn't even guess where it started but it likely dates to well before then. Motorcycles were pretty rare then too, before Honda and the other Japanese makers had a foothold. Do Veyron owners have a wave?
I own a Jeep Wrangler and Corvette and the Corvette owner will more readily wave back than the Jeepers- at least here in Colorado. Jeeps are very common in Colorado. Corvettes aren't.
I suspect that the more rare a vehicle is-the more likely that you will get a wave back from a like vehicle. Corvettes are rarely seen here in Colorado-especially during the winter. (Though the front air dam sure makes for a good snow plow! )

The Vette isn't the only car make where the owners wave to each other. Been going on for many years. And unfortunately, there seems to be a decline in the wave being given between Corvette owners.
Unless your oblivious to the rest of human life you'll notice everyone waves to everyone else when they have the same car, truck or what ever. It's everyones little way of pretending they are all in some kind of club. Or just a way of showing love for their rides. Corvette owners stole the "wave" from cowboys on horses...
