Other than making it more difficult for the DIY guy at home to service his / her low clearance car...
Is there any reason why Chevrolet / GM located the Oil Drain Plug on the Front of the Pan on the C5 Corvette instead of the Rear of the Pan like the Camaro and most other GM vehicles?

Did their plan work?

I take it ('98) to my friendly Vette repair shop, bring my own oil and filter and let them do it for $25. I now only put 5,000 miles a yr. on the car. (120,000 miles on it now.) I change oil/filter once, maybe twice a yr. That's being generous, but condensation and all...... I understand GM issued a bulletin that syn. oil change intervals were now at 15,000 miles.
Mmmmm.... Last time I changed the plugs and wires was 40,000 miles ago. I might pop for those as well at the next oil change.

Look at the picture you posted. Look at the oil drain then look where the exhaust system is. Would YOU like to be twisting a wrench AND draining oil right next to a potentially hot exhaust system?
Secondly, the car is so low, there's no practical way to drain the oil without the car being on some sort of ramps (front and year). After the car is on the ramps, what difference does the drain location make? HOWEVER, there ARE internal baffles that may make it necessary to have the drain where it is...
