I bring my own oil and filter. $20 and 20 minutes, and I'm done.

That $24.95 is for labour the synthetic Mobil 1 is extra...all in about $75- including filter, oil and labour. Beats the $150- the retailer wants. Rob

To tell the truth I never really thought about it. I change my oil @ 50% usually and I don't mind having to lift it and get underneath. It gives me an opportunity to check around underneath and make sure everything is o.k. Possibly so the car can be inclined slightly to drain all the oil out.

BTW, where is evil-twin? Maybe he would know if there was an intentional reason.

He said he was "going on vacation"..... The general consensus was that he was tired of the verbal attacks by "newbs" that A)had no real understanding of automobile engineering; and B) an understanding that he ACTUALLY WAS a part of the C-5 design team, therefore knew what he was talking about. I can't blame him...

Does the dealership lift the back end and leave it to drain for an hour to get as much of the old oil out as possible, whilst having one or two beers???

DIY wins yet again.

There's not too much of a price difference between DIY and letting a good shop do it.

He has answered this before. It was something along the lines of, "Because oil filter/plug placement is an afterthought when it comes to automotive design."

If that is true, then I guess any monkey could call itself an automotive designer.
