Default Shopping for tires too soon

TPMS says low RR tire. Pull into a parking spot and look for any obvious problem. Easy find, a 1/4"x 4" bolt embedded in the outside edge tread. I could feel air escaping around the bolt so I headed for home, about 8 miles away. Made it home ok, pulled out the bolt and put in a plug. Too close to the edge for a tire shop to consider an inside patch anyway. It's holding pressure for now so I can move/drive the car if necessary.

I'm running Z06 wheels and remember what a frustrating search finding a set of tires that met both cost and performance criteria in the sizes necessary.

I really only need rears, the fronts (Hankooks) still look new. Any suggestions welcomed. The LR has a patch already, picked up a nail in it over a year ago.

Not being a fan of mixing tire brands and/or tread patterns, I think you just answered your own question.

Problem being, Hankook doesn't make a 295-35-18, or at least I haven't found them. I have considered using the 275-40-18 on the Z06 rims but I know that would be a mortal sin. Did I really just put that out there?

I bought my new rear tires, Nitto NT555, off of Craigslist. They had 500 miles on them and I got the pair for $300.

As long as the tires on each side of an axle are the same the front to back doesn't really matter. I have mixed brands because the company that makes my front tires doesn't make tires in the size I need for the rear. My car rides and handles just fine.

I am running Z06 wheels on mine as well.

I am extremely happy with my new set of Nitto 555's. They are very quiet and offer exceptional handling.

I got them at Discount Tires, great deal and great service.

John, just noticed your avatar. Striper is identical except for the wheels. btw, don't do 275's on rear. They were on my car when I got it and I couldn't wait to get them off.

which hankook is it? the only one i've seen guys use on oe z06 wheels is the 255 40 17 rs3 in which case the 285 35 18 of that same tire is a match

you can mix brands IF you know how the compounds behave in each brands. a bridgestone re11 and yoke ad08 can mix for example. i still wouldn't do it, mostly for cosmetics but you could

there are very few tires choices for the oe z06 wheels anymore. the bridgestone re760 is the last is the correct size. the ps2 kind of is but the rear 295s are only made in porsche n4 compound which is different than the front

the conti dw is probably the best street tire for your money, great in the wet, great treadlife and good in the dry without requiring heat

nitto nt05 better in the dry only with a shorter life

both or those last two require 275mm fronts

What size tires are you running on your Z06 front stock wheels if you didn't put the stock tire size 265/40/17? Thanks.

I have 275 front and 295 rear. I now have straight sidewalks that have a rim protection rib, and the rears are no longer stretched to fit too large a rim.

This, I have the DW's on all 4 corners of my 99 vert, and they are an excellent tire. Great dry, wet, handling, quiet, and 340 tread wear rating.

Sounds good. Thanks for the info.
Going to put 275/40/17 Vredestein Ultrac Sessenta on my 2002 Z06 stock front wheels and 295/35/18 on stock rear wheels.
