While I understand and agree that street racing is illegal and dangerous, why is it okay for the Corvette Forum itself to promote such activity and yet condemn those who post the same.?
I am referring to their link on the homepage seen here:
I should know because I have been reprimanded in the past for such a post
Your C7 vs C6 on the street thread violates forum rules. For your reference:
No kill stories/street racing videos
Street racing is dangerous and illegal.
Kill stories, or any posting about illegal, reckless or dangerous activities on any roadway, is not permitted.
Take it to the track.
Please refrain from such posts in the future.
Thanks.
It doesn't bother me by any means that material of this nature was posted but am I missing something here? Was it a slip up by someone... Have the rules changed? Or does the Forum not have to follow it's own rules?
probably a slip up, or perhaps IB has some sort of agreement with corvettevideos.tv (the site the video came from, perhaps they paid for advertising to promote their site on here).
Just like most things, someone has to be offended. Sure, a forum site has the "political" responsibility to condemn street racing. Sure, 150mph is very dangerous on the highway. But, to me, saying, don't race in your Corvette is like the Rock Against Drugs campaign of the 80's. I, for one, did not purchase a high performance vehicle so I can putt around like your great-grandma. Will I run it to 150? NEVER. If a stupid 5.0 Mustang whose owner thinks he has a hotrod because he put a flowmaster on his car comes up alongside me and shows his ***, I will school him....... if the situation seems appropriate. And for the record, from a dig, a 15 yr old, bone stock MN6 C5 can get a full car length on the new Challenger R/T's by the top of first gear. I shut it down at or around 5500rpm. All in good fun, and no one got hurt. And, I bet I'm not the first guy on this forum to admit he has done a little light to light dig. We all have our own ideas as to what is acceptable. Don't condemn your brothers because theirs doesn't match yours.

This subject always seems to rear its ugly head from time to time, Yes we own high performance cars and there is probably not a single person on these forums who hasn't done something wild/crazy at one time.
The real reason for not allowing/promoting the idea of street racing is the whole liability behind it, the last thing the owners of this site want is a news story related to death of someone that they as a site allowed/supported.
Time and place for high speed runs or runs vs your buddy, the two idiots runnin each other in what is a residential area with plenty of foot traffic is insane and irresponsible, and good to see the two wrecked there rides and didn't kill anyone.
Least now they at least will be off the street for a bit and maybe learned there lesson
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
