You'll have nothing but headaches. The '97 and '98 engine harness and pcm connector wiring is totally different, as were the pcms themselves.
You'll want a '99, or later, manual trans engine harness (no auto).

Thanks for the advice but I already have the 98 so can it work?. Do I need to just switch the body control harness too, that way I'm using al 98 harness?

I don't think the body harness (fuse box, lighting, etc) is as much problem, but the engine harness will be. Besides, the '97/'98 pcms were far inferior to the '99s and up.

If you want to use the '98 engine harness, you can re-pin it (pcm connectors) to work with your existing '01 pcm, but that entails removing and re-installing quite a few individual pins in both the red and the blue connector bodies.

There's a few tuners around that can do this, but not very many. I know one in Florida that has done this on a number of GM vehicles (Vettes/Camaros, etc)

Might give EFI Connection a call and see what they would recommend too. They sell a ton of stuff (wiring, connectors, etc) for guys retro-fitting both LT1 and LS1/6 engines. Or call Doc at EFI Alchemy in JAX, FL and see what he recommends. Doc has re-pinned lots of LS cars for the later model pcms to be used. Maybe call Marc at Vettenuts and see what he wants for a '99+ engine harness as well. I've also seen C5 engine harnesses on Ebay as well.

Bottom line is, if you don't get this right, you'll have nothing but headaches going forward.
